About the Program and Position:
Our Transitional Foster Care Program for Unaccompanied Children (UC)overseen by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), ensures thewell-being and safety of unaccompanied children (ages 0-17) who crossthe US Southern border without an adult. Unlike traditional congregatecare settings, our approach involves placing unaccompanied children infoster homes while diligently searching for and assessing potentialsponsors identified in the US. During their stay with us, we providemedical care, case management, engaging life skills classes, andessential mental health services.
Our LPNs specifically provide medical care required by theunaccompanied children we serve. We are looking for LPNs who arepassionate about helping this vulnerable population and able tosupport a busy medical office. The role is crucial to the health &well-being of our unaccompanied children who are trying to establish anew home in the U.S.
Under the direction of an RN you will utilize your skills to…
- Assist with initial medical assessments
- Perform vitals and point of care testing (ie. urine pregnancytest, strep test, flu test, COVID test, glucose test)
- Review immunization records, draw up and administer necessary immunizations
- Update City Immunization Registry
- Administer medications, track medication administration recordsas provided by foster parent, assist with required documentationfor prescriptions
- Act as English-Spanish translator for medical provider
- Work collaboratively with the Medical Provider, Case Manager,Clinician, Medical Assistant and Skills Trainer to coordinateappropriate services for each youth
- Administer and read TB tests to youth
- Responsible for all medical reporting requirements which includesgovernment UCPortal as well as internal electronic medical record MEDENT
Schedule: Exempt
- Regular hours Monday- Friday with openings for 8:00am-4:00pm,9:00am-5:00pm, 10am-6pm
- Remote on-call may be required which may include weekends/holidays
- Must be flexible to meet program needs
Experience and Skills:
- NYS Licensed Practical Nurse
- Experience working with youth
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team context
- Demonstrated ability to perform duties with minimal supervisionand to exercise greater judgment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Word processing: Including responding to emails, composingletters, completing computerized documentation, be familiar withexcel and electronic medical record system etc.: This involvessitting at a computer for several hours
- Completing paperwork -Such as copying, scanning and faxing documents
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- 160 hours of vacation time; 12 Sick Days per year
