Description
The Quinault Indian Nation is a federally recognized Indian tribe. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for caring for patients, maintaining accurate and current medical records, and scheduling and administering follow-up appointments. This position provides primary medical care to those enrolled in the program for treatment of opiate addiction.
Specific duties and day-to-day tasks of the Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provides primary care to patients of the Quinault Wellness Center with appropriate clinical management which may include prescription of medications, referrals, and education/counseling. Manages common health issues that arise including Hepatitis C, Wound Management, URI, HTN, and asthma.
- Diagnoses or treats complex, unstable, comorbid, episodic, or urgent conditions in collaboration with other health care providers as necessary.
- Provides medical services including taking a history and physical examination for the opiate treatment program and performs appropriate follow-up visits.
- Accurately and efficiently monitor daily doses of Methadone/Buprenorphine (Suboxone/Subutex) or other medications as indicated by the physician.
- Provides outpatient detoxification and treatment services to persons addicted to opiates.
- Develops treatment plans, based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.
- Provides general health counseling services under the supervision of the Medical Director and follows the progress of patients. Makes appropriate records of findings during examinations and submits charts to the Medical Doctor for review and signature.
- Educates patients regarding how to take prescribed medication and possible side effects.
- Monitors organization-wide performance improvement activities as a member of the clinic medical team and participates in staff meetings and/or consultations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Adheres to all QNEB Policies.
Qualifications
Required:
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner in good standing with the State of Washington.
- Must maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License and must be insurable through the Quinault Wellness Center.
- Knowledge of the current medical practices in primary care, mental health, and addiction medicine. Management of sexually acquired illnesses, Hep C, family planning and familiarity with prenatal care beneficial.
- Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
- Knowledge and adherence to state (RCW, WAC) and federal confidentiality regulations (42 CFR part 2). Applicants must always conduct self ethically and professionally.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and PHI requirements.
- Knowledge of common office and administrative procedures.
- Skills in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Skills in the operation of a personal computer and standard office programs and equipment.
- Ability to maintain good personal and ethical boundaries. Empathy and good communications skills. Motivational interviewing skills or a desire to learn MI.
- Ability to work in a cross-culture environment and understands the social and cultural context of the patients at the Quinault Wellness Center, understanding the role of trauma, historical, community, family, and personal experience in wellness and recovery.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and outside agencies.
Preferred:
- Previous substance abuse treatment and/or primary care experience strongly preferred.
