Job Summary
The Radiology Manager is responsible for overseeing the operational, financial, and staffing aspects of the radiology department. They ensure the delivery of high-quality diagnostic imaging services while maintaining patient care, safety, and compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. The Radiology Manager collaborates with physicians, administrators, and other healthcare professionals to improve imaging services and implement new technologies and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Department Operations:
- Manage the daily operations of the radiology department, including scheduling, workflow, and resource allocation.
- Oversee imaging services such as X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds, and other diagnostic procedures.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including radiation safety standards.
- Monitor equipment performance and schedule repairs or replacements as necessary.
- Staff Management:
- Supervise and mentor radiology staff, including radiologic technologists, administrative personnel, and support staff.
- Oversee hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
- Develop staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and minimal patient wait times.
- Foster a positive working environment and address any employee concerns or conflicts.
- Quality Control and Compliance:
- Implement and monitor quality control programs to ensure accurate and consistent imaging results.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, such as Joint Commission, HIPAA, and OSHA.
- Stay updated on the latest industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the department budget, including payroll, equipment, and supply costs.
- Monitor billing processes and ensure accurate documentation and coding.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs without compromising quality.
- Patient Care:
- Ensure that patient care standards are met, and patients receive respectful, timely, and accurate diagnostic services.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare providers to address patient needs and ensure optimal diagnostic outcomes.
- Address patient complaints or concerns related to imaging services.
- Technology and Innovation:
- Stay informed of advancements in radiologic technologies and imaging techniques.
- Lead the implementation of new technologies and best practices to improve service quality and efficiency.
- Coordinate with IT and equipment vendors to maintain imaging systems and software.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. Advanced certifications in radiology or imaging technology are preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in radiology, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Licenses/Certifications: ARRT certification (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or equivalent. Additional certifications in MRI, CT, or other specialties are a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Knowledge of radiology equipment, safety standards, and compliance regulations.
- Financial acumen and experience managing departmental budgets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field.
- Experience in a large healthcare facility or multi-department imaging service.
