Peer Specialist- Scattered Site Housing
Reports to: Director of Supportive Services
Job Description:
- Provide peer/general support to persons exiting long-term homelessness who also experience multiple disabling conditions (including substance use and serious mental illness)
- Grocery/Hygiene/Necessities shopping for client
- Occasional food prep
- Demonstrate how to complete basic household chores such as laundry or cleaning.
- Utilize public transportation with clients to navigate to and from external appointments.
- Maintain daily in-person contact with clients with open availability.
- Offer supportive listening and feedback to clients when they present mental and emotional distress and assist with providing conflict resolution, if needed.
- Coordinate socializing activities.
- Assist with housing inspections.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and supervision recommended by the Director of Supportive Services.
- Ensure that clients' living spaces remain habitable and communicate any concerns with Case Managers.
- Document all client interactions into HMIS electronic database.
- Other duties assigned.
Requirements:
- Reliable transportation and willingness to utilize public transportation when needed.
- Willingness to adhere to The Principles of Harm Reduction & Housing First.
- Personal experience with substance abuse, mental illness, and/or homelessness preferred.
- Basic familiarity with technology.
- Ability to document shifts (read and write).
- Maturity to extend self to clients in need for emotional support but also draw clear boundaries for clients.
- Work hours are flexible, but availability on occasional evenings and weekends is expected.
Compensation
- $17-18.50/Hour
- Up to 40 hours/Week per the needs of the organization
Non-traditional hours can be accommodated to allow for classes or other circumstances with the approval of management.This position is grant-funded and is dependent on funding renewal.
