This position supports our Messino Cancer Centers clinic in Asheville, NC.
Job Description Summary:
Plan, direct, and evaluate the overall nursing care and functions. Coordinate the activities of the unit and direct, organize, and assign work to the nurses and pharmacy technicians. Assess, monitor, and educate the nursing staff on patient care. Institute emergency procedures as necessary.
Key Performance Area:
Work in cooperation with all office departments to ensure continuity of patient care and smooth office flow.
Staffing: Prepare schedule for clinic’s Nurses and Pharmacy Technician. Work in cooperation with Head Nurse to assure coverage for increased patient schedules or staff’s time off. Provide Head Nurse with all nursing/pharmacy technicians requests for time off.
Training: Oversee the orientation of new nurses and pharmacy technicians. Assess skills of these employees and make recommendations for continued employment, further training, or release.
Forms: Responsible for the completion of incident reports, reaction forms, and drug waste forms that need to be completed and turned in to Head Nurse on the day of any event.
Patient Education: Coordinate nurses to teach patient education classes. Oversee packet assembly for orientation and patient education classes.
Communication: Check AON e-mail and Onco EMR mailboxes daily and respond accordingly. Coordinate the triage of incoming phone calls and act as a resource for staff regarding AON policies and procedures.
Research: Understand and support clinical trials and ECOG. Communicate with Research Coordinator to ensure excellent patient care.
Special chemotherapy circumstances: Coordinate special procedures and chemotherapy treatments, ensuring necessary medications and equipment are available.
Pharmacy: Work with the purchasing department to maintain PAR levels and oversee ordering of medical and pharmaceutical supplies.
Comply with all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to patient care and maintain confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
Adhere to all company and departmental policies and procedures.
Keep work area and records in a neat and orderly manner.
Maintain all company equipment in safe working order.
Be expected to work at any AON location to meet AON business needs.
Supervisory Duties:
Provide daily direction and communication to employees to ensure timely and efficient work performance.
Evaluate processes and procedures, discussing suggestions for improvement.
Establish work procedures that support company standards and provide performance feedback regularly.
Maintain favorable working relationships with all company employees.
Be available for employees experiencing work problems and provide appropriate coaching and resolution.
Keep Head Nurse informed of all significant issues and take corrective action as necessary.
Participate in interviews with job applicants and provide input on potential hires.
Coordinate with Head Nurse on time-off requests while ensuring adequate staffing.
Position Qualifications/Requirements:
Registered Nurse with appropriate state license.
OCN certification required within two years of employment.
At least two years of experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital.
Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Current CPR certification and valid driver’s license required.
