Job Overview:
The Advance Practice Provider is a vital member of our outpatient care team who works collaboratively with our cardiovascular surgeons on management and oversight of cardiovascular surgery and structural heart inpatients in the CTICU and the stepdown unit. Their advance practice provider performs a comprehensive health assessments and management of patients with acute and/or chronic health problems. Obtain patient histories and perform physical examination. Writing orders and daily progress notes as indicated. Assess and manage common health problems. Order and evaluate pertinent diagnostic tests including but not limited to: Radiology, laboratories and ECG s. Prescribe pharmacological agents and non-pharmacological treatments for appropriate medical conditions. Educate patients and/or families regarding disease process, medical intervention and health promotion. Document patient teaching and patient discharge summaries as needed. Refers and communicates pertinent abnormalities to cardiovascular surgeon and primary medical team. Serves as a resource for nursing and ancillary staff in regards to patient and disease management. Address any outpatient clinical patient care issues, concerns and follow up as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Licensed Registered Nurse in the state or New Jersey. Certified Nurse Practitioner in the state of New Jersey. Masters prepared in Nursing from an accredited program, ACLS certified. Certified Physician Assistant in the State of New Jersey, Masters prepared from an accredited program.
- Experience in cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology or general cardiology. Cardiothoracic surgery experience preferred. ICU, CCU, CTS or cardiology experience must.
- CDS, BLS, ACLS and DEA required.
Responsibilities include: Consultations, optimizing patients prior to surgery in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, managing patients post-operatively in the CTICU as well as CT Step-Down units, managing post-op complications, coordinating with multi-disciplinary team and nursing staff to provide patients an optimal pre- and post-operative experience, discharging patients in a safe and satisfactory manner.
Scheduling Requirements:
- Nights Role
- 3 days per week, 13 hours
- May require one Saturday a month
Essential Functions:
- Identifies appropriate patient for NP coverage.
- Performs daily rounds. Discusses plan of care with MD s and multidisciplinary team.
- Evaluates pertinent diagnostic tests (including radiology, laboratory, ECG, echo, cardiac cath report) in accordance with NP protocol.
- Communicates with MD regarding pertinent abnormalities. Facilitates compliance of PRO-NJ requirements.
- Writes orders for pharmacologic agents/non-pharmacologic treatments (i.e. patient education, labs, etc.) for appropriate medical conditions.
- Completes daily progress notes/discharge sheet in accordance with PRO-NJ requirements.
- Assesses and manages health problems occurring during hospitalization per NP protocol.
