Overview
Axle is looking to add a driven, flexible, organized, and meticulous Biologist to our dynamic team. The Contractor(s) shall provide services in support of the overall functions of the Antibody Immunity Section (AIMS), Vaccine Research Center (VRC).
Technical Requirements:
- Perform cell-line based viral neutralization assays, analyze data from assays, and maintain cell cultures.
- Create data reports in a timely manner, assist with preparations of figures for manuscripts, and present data at in-house meetings.
- Prepare samples for flow cytometry, track reagents in database, and prepare viral stocks.
- Handle blood samples from HIV-infected humans; small animals; and non-human primates such as rhesus monkeys at biosafety level 2-with-3 practices.
- Follow good lab practices, including but not limited to:
o Following safety regulations for chemicals and biohazards
o Regularly taking out waste and calling chemical safety office for chemical waste pickup
o Receiving supplies and restocking
- Teach laboratory practices and techniques to new members of the laboratory, according to expertise.
- May include other cell culture and molecular biology techniques, at the discretion of the Task Leader, including but not limited to:
- Antibody expression and purification
- PCR
- Plasmid preparation
- Sequence analysis
- Gel electrophoresis
- ELISA assays
Specific Qualifications:
B.S. in a biological sciences field is required.
Minimum of two (2) years of direct experience in laboratory-based research including: viral neutralization assays, cell culture, transfections, mycoplasma testing, protein purification, flow cytometry, bacterial transformation, and plasmid preparation is required.
