Focus:
- Set up, monitor, and adjust mechanical ventilation systems, recommending adjustments as needed.
- Deliver bronchial hygiene and respiratory treatments, including aerosol and therapeutic gas therapies; monitor gas levels and operate central gas systems.
- Evaluate patient conditions pre- and post-treatment, recommending modifications as needed.
- Apply CPAP/BiPAP and suggest adjustments based on patient responses.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation across patients and departmental records.
- Assess patient oxygenation and hemodynamic conditions, perform CPR, and respond as part of the Rapid Response Team.
- Conduct bedside spirometry and assess pulmonary function data.
- Provide instructional support to patients, families, and students.
- Conduct ECGs, perform arterial punctures, and provide support during bronchoscopy procedures.
- Guide respiratory care students through hands-on learning and provide support during each stage of their clinical rotations.
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and team audits.
Skill Set:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with an active Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
- Demonstrated competence in critical care skills.
- BLS Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification within four weeks of employment.
- Strong technical skills, with the ability to customize equipment and processes based on patient needs.
- Effective analytical skills to assess and adapt treatment plans.
- Strong customer service skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
- Adaptable, with a capacity to adjust to fluctuating workloads and priorities.
- ACLS certification is a plus.
