We are seeking an experienced professional medical billing and coding specialist for a top client in the Nashville area. This is a permanent position with excellent benefits.
Responsibilities
Responsible for maintaining accurate medical billing records, providing medical coding for procedures and diagnoses, providing monthly reports, following up on A/R, collections, claims follow-up, and account reconciliation.
Duties:
- Sending claims to insurance companies daily
- Posting charges to appropriate accounts when needed
- Sending out patient statements for balances on patient accounts
- Identifying any coding issues and communicating with the staff for correction
- Following up on unpaid and denied insurance claims
- Investigating any payment issues as a result of the payer not paying per contractual agreement
- Maintaining knowledge of insurance companies and fee schedules
- Responding to patient inquiries concerning billing
- Handling and processing patient refunds as well as insurance refunds
- Performing other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Compiling, abstracting, and maintaining patient medical records to document condition and treatment for surgeries
- Identifying, compiling, and coding patient data using ICD-10 and CPT classification coding systems
- Performing regularly scheduled targeted audits to assess revenue optimization and quality of documentation
- Researching and resolving problems with patient accounts in work queues
- Assisting physicians and providers on coding questions or concerns
- Using reports to audit tickets in work queue for missed charges, completeness, accurate coding, etc.
- Performing charge entry functions
- Facilitating conversation and working as a liaison between CBO, Compliance, and physicians to resolve documentation and billing concerns
- Supporting compliance policies with government and private payer regulations
- Being an active participant in the development and maintenance of all work queue edits
- Researching and resolving problems with patient accounts
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
High school diploma
1+ year of medical billing/coding experience (with ICD-10 and CPT coding)
Experience using a PC in a Windows environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written documentation and communication skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Familiarity with procedural and diagnostic coding
- Familiarity with ICD and CPT coding methodology
- Knowledge of medical insurance

- Certification as a Certified Professional Coder
