This position may be filled as:
- DETAIL: The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
- TEMPORARY JOB APPOINTMENT: This position may be filled by temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
- PROBATIONAL APPOINTMENT: Current permanent status classified State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment, if selected.

SALARY DEPENDS ON LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE:
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST 1, 2, or 3, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
The maximum salary for the Medical Laboratory Technologist 3 is $96,533.00 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Either of the following will qualify:
A baccalaureate degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science.
OR
A baccalaureate degree with sixteen semester hours in the biological sciences which includes three semester hours in microbiology, sixteen semester hours in chemistry which includes three semester hours in organic or biochemistry, three semester hours in mathematics; and one year of clinical training in a clinical laboratory.
NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a current Clinical Laboratory Scientist--Generalist or Specialist license issued by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners as required by law based upon the duties of the position.
Function of Work: To perform a wide variety of clinical diagnostic tests with emphasis on recognizing and resolving problems and requiring the application of interpretive judgment.
Level of Work: Entry.
Supervision Received: Close from laboratory personnel of a higher level.
Supervision Exercised: None.
Location of Work: This job is restricted to laboratories which are licensed, regulated and inspected for compliance with various federal and state rules and regulations and which fall under the jurisdiction of state licensure, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Job Distinctions: Differs from Medical Laboratory Technologist 2 by the presence of close supervision.
Performs tests in the field of bacteriology which involve isolating, identifying, typing, and grouping bacteria and fungi present in body fluids, exudate, transudate, skin scrapings, autopsy, and surgical specimens.
Performs chemical tests and analyses of body fluids and other materials related to clinical medicine or research in the medical sciences, such as chemical analyses of blood, urine, and spinal fluid.
Performs various hematological tests and examinations such as red blood cell counts, white blood cell counts, sickle cell tests, studies of red blood cell morphology, hemoglobin estimations, fragility tests, sedimentation rate, coagulation time, bleeding time, clot retraction time, and indices.
Prepares and examines feces and other materials for the identification of parasites and ova.
Performs agglutination, flocculation, complement fixation, fluorescent antibody, and other serological tests for the detection of disease status.
Assists in the teaching of laboratory technology students.
