GP Practice Nurse Required in Castletown Clinic in Dundalk Co.Louth.
50 minutes from Dublin.
60 minutes from Belfast.
In Castletown Clinic we are a GP training practice. We currently have two full time GPs and a student GP training in the practice, two part-time nurses and an excellent administration team.
ALL APPLICANTS MUST EITHER BE QUALIFIED AS A NURSE OR AS A DUAL NURSE AND MIDWIFE AND MUST BE REGISTERED WITH AN BORD ALTRANAIS or THE NMBI.
Role Responsibilities:
General Nursing
- Phone triage
- Phlebotomy/Venesection
- Ear Lavage
- Injections
- Stock Control
- Provisions and maintenance of emergency equipment
- Assisting in clinical audits
Health Screening
- 24-hour BP Monitor
- Phlebotomy
- BP Monitoring
- ECG
- BMI
- Referral national screening programmes; BreastCheck, CervicalCheck, BowelScreen and DiabeticRetinaScreen
Respiratory
- Management of Asthma and COPD
- Education in inhaler technique
- Management of acute exacerbations
- Pulmonary Rehab
- Spirometry
Female Health and Obstetric Care
- Reproductive Health; Pre-Conceptual Advice, Ante-natal, Post-natal care and Infant feeding
- Hormonal contraception advice
- Non-hormonal contraception advice
- Breast Health and disease
- Menstruation
- Sexual Health
- Cervical Screening
Immunisations
- Administration of childhood vaccines in accordance with National Guidelines including PCV, Men B, 6 in 1, MMR, HIB, and Rotavirus oral vaccine
- Travel vaccines including Hep A+B, malaria prophylaxis and general travel advice
- Seasonal Flu Vaccines
- Pneumonia vaccine and vaccination of high-risk groups
- Vaccination in pregnancy
Chronic Disease Management & Monitoring The Long-Term Conditions
- Structured chronic disease management programme to prevent and manage patient chronic disease, notably; Type 2 Diabetes, Asthma
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Cardiovascular disease including heart failure, heart attack (angina), stroke and irregular heartbeats (atrial fibrillation)
- Monitoring of long-term conditions e.g., Osteoporosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Thyroid disease, multimorbidities
Communication
- Managing routine consultations including phone triage
- Taking a history and giving results
- Dealing with patient’s specific needs
- Identifying and overcoming barriers
- Communicating with external agencies
- Delegation and accountability
- Communicating with the practice team
Diabetes Care
- Management and Education
- Screen for long term complications
- Referral to structured education programs
