Responsible and accountable for direction and coordination of nursing services and hospital activities during the off shifts, (weekends, holidays, evenings, nights) to maintain continuity of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Provides administrative direction and decision making for nursing care of patients during the off shifts (evening, nights, weekends, holidays).
- Interprets philosophy, objectives, standards and goals of Patient Care Division to staff, patients, and visitors.
- Coordinates admission, transfers, and discharge of patients. Schedules and reallocates nursing personnel to provide adequate staffing.
- Confers with hospital administrators on call regarding operational and management problems.
- Makes rounds with Nursing staff and helps assess and plan patient care needs.
- Participates in orientation of new personnel, per diem staff, and private duty nurses to afford them guidance and supervision.
- Identifies individual and collective needs of nursing staff and confers with Education Department.
- Plans, develops, and holds [patient care conferences as necessary in order to assess needs and problems, plans nursing approaches and intervention, and discusses discharge planning.
- Attends Divisional Meetings and conducts Charge Nurse meetings on shift. Attends and participates in Patient Care Services and Hospital committee meetings and projects.
- Ensures delivery of excellent customer service resulting in positive and improving patient satisfaction scores for department and Medical Center.
- Administrative supervision of all hospital activities as delegated by hospital administrator.
- Evaluates work performance and assists in Performance Appraisal process.
- Selectively participates in direct nursing care.
- Guides and assists the nursing staff in utilizing the nursing process, and in performing activities or procedures necessary for patient care.
- Guides and assists nursing staff with documentation of appropriate and accurate data on patient's record.
- Collaborates with medical staff makes suggestions as needed to provide optimum patient management.
- Enhances and fosters a therapeutic environment through interaction with family, patient, nursing and medical personnel.
- Develops knowledge and skills of nursing staff necessary for the implementation of nursing process.
- Provides career guidance and counseling to nursing staff and stimulates continuation of their educational growth and development.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- BSN required.
- Five (5) years experience as an RN.
- Minimum three (3) years experience in an administrative position.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Masters degree in Nursing
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- New Jersey Registered Nurse.
- BLS.
