PURPOSE
Under general supervision, provides routine nursing care within the limits of nursing knowledge, education, licensure, experience and ethical, legal standards of care. Assists Supervisor or Manager by serving as a resource for the clinical staff. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance, confidentiality, and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Acts as a resource to staff and physicians as needed.
- Responsible for monitoring overall patient flow and delegates action as necessary.
- Makes sure all providers have necessary info/tools for their shift.
- Provides procedural support to other clinical staff.
- Responds to emergencies or overhead pages for a nurse.
- Assists with on-the-job training for all new and existing clinical staff.
- Acts as a resource for patients and staff with clinical related questions/problems requiring resolution.
- Participates in and assists with coordination of clinical staff meetings.
- Communicates staffing needs/issues to Clinic Manager/Supervisor.
- Communicates frequently with Clinic Manager/Supervisor to remain knowledgeable concerning policy/procedure and relays all necessary information to clinical staff.
- Ensures clinical processes and protocols are followed in the unit.
- Provides direct nursing care to patients and distributes medications and treatments under physician order according to accepted standards of care.
- Accurately and completely rooms patients, takes and documents vital signs, and prepares patients for provider exam.
- Teaches and counsels patients and families concerning health assessment and care including prevention of disease and health maintenance.
- Accurately and completely reports and documents status, care rendered, response to care, provider orders, contacts with patient and/or other healthcare providers.
- Accurately and completely performs patient follow-up activities including laboratory results and diagnostics, appointments, referrals, medications, and call backs.
- Calls pharmacy with prescription refills as prescribed by and under the direction of the physician.
- Performs diagnostic testing including but not limited to EKGs, audiograms, typanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings with reporting and documentation as appropriate.
- Participates in the orientation of new employees.
- Quality assurance for all clinical workflow and processes.
- Helps implement processes and suggests improvements.
- Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
- Regular and dependable attendance.
- Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on CMSweb.
- Works holiday shift(s) as required by Company policy.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitors inventory of medical and/or office supplies and equipment, ensuring units and/or rooms are properly stocked and supplies are current and not expired. Orders supplies as needed.
- May assist providers with sigmoidoscopy exams and cardiac stress testing by setting up equipment, assisting with patient preparation, and cleaning and storing equipment after exam. Reports and documents appropriately.
- May provide vaccine management including ordering and monitoring vaccine usage/wastage, facilitating the maintenance of the vaccines, participating in educational opportunities, utilizing the Texas Vaccine for Children Provider Manual, and completing reportable documentation as recommended by Texas Department of State Health Services.
- May facilitate the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the immunization program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Required: High school diploma or GED. Graduation from an accredited school of vocational nursing. One (1) or more years of nursing experience.
Preferred: Previous experience in an ambulatory or acute care setting. One (1) or more years of experience working at ARC.
Certificate/License
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Texas and current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card. Will be required to maintain a current vocational nursing license and CPR certification during employment.
