Job Description:
The Licensed Practical Nurse applies practical knowledge and employs specialized skills to facilitate efficient operations and to provide quality medical care to a diverse student population, focusing on preventative maintenance and restorative care and employing evidence-based practice. Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the Medical Clinics, consisting of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and medical assistants. Should have a deep appreciation for a collaborative care model, partnering with Mental Health Service and Wellness and Health Promotion, and a commitment to advancing the divisional priorities of quality, access and inclusion, mattering and belonging, and cultivating a working relationship with Our Lady of the Lake Health.
Job Responsibilities:
- 40% - Performs nursing duties, including administration of PO medications, intramuscular injections, inhalation therapy, topical applications, specimen collection as well as various orthotic brace applications. Collects VS, assists with patient intake requirements for the Primary Care Clinic, including mental health and psychiatry, the Sexual Health and Gynecology Clinic, and the Specialty Clinics.
- 30% - Performs skilled nursing to assist providers in examinations and procedures such as laceration repair, incision and drainage and toenail removal. Performs Point of Care testing including HCG, Strep, HIV, CBG and ECG. Communicates with providers and Registered Nurses regarding patient’s physical condition and behavior.
- 20% - Effectively uses electronic health record for documentation, immunization verification, coding, billing, student communication and scheduling. Follows proper procedure for maintaining confidentiality of protected health information.
- 5% - Attends regular meetings; completes required training, performs inventory and stocking of treatment area and participates in quality improvement activities.
- 5% - Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice practical nursing or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state plus two years of practical nursing experience.
Other Requirements/Expectations:
This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.
