Essential Functions
The Director of Behavioral Health Nursing is responsible for:
- Assisting the Director of Clinical Services-Behavioral Health in promoting and maintaining quality patient care through effective leadership on his/her assigned unit(s).
- Oversight of RN related duties and RN staffing.
- Oversight of CNA/MHT related duties and CNA/MHT staffing.
- Fostering a service consistent with the patient care beliefs and shared management philosophy of the department.
- Consulting with patient/families through primary nurse request, direct family request or direct assessment of patient/family response to hospitalization.
- Assessing patient/significant other survey responses regarding nursing care and services.
- Coordinating activities and schedules, disseminating information, and promoting a positive working environment for staff, physician, LIP's and ancillary departments.
- Holding staff accountable for following JSMC policy/procedure, CMS standards and regulations and JC standards and regulations.
- Completing all patient chart checks as required by CMS.
- Accurately reporting physician services for billing purposes.
- Alternating on-call responsibilities with Director of Clinical Services - Behavioral Health, alternating a week on/week off and alternating holidays as agreed upon.
- Conducting him/herself in a professional and positive manner.
- Mentoring staff and validating staff performance.
- Attending and participating in meetings/committees for process and performance improvement.
- Assisting in oversight of the intake of referrals and Psychiatric Intake/Referral Assessment Worksheet.
- Acting as Department Director in absence of Director of Clinical Services-Behavioral Health.
- Supervising staff members who provide direct patient care.
- Following the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Practicing within the scope of the license.
- Utilizing critical thinking skills.
