Position Summary: The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner serves as an essential member of the patient care team responsible for delivering direct and indirect care utilizing the PA/NP scope of practice. The PA or NP will be responsible for assessing health status, developing and executing interventions collaboratively with the clinical team, and evaluating patient responses. Duties may be delegated according to the education and practice standard of the team member. A Maine Urgent Care Medical Director will be available to assist and/or supervise the Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in patient evaluation and management. The PA or NP practices in accordance with CMH’s Policies and Procedures and HIPAA.
Essential Duties:
- Serves as the champion of the patient experience
- Engages patients utilizing exceptional customer service practices in alignment with the Five Must Haves:
- Greet people with a smile, friendly eye contact and say hello
- Take people where they are going, rather than point or give directions
- Use key words at key times. “Is there anything else I can do for you?”
- Foster an attitude of gratitude
- Round with reason
- Perform physical examinations on patients of all ages to include patient’s medical, family, and social history
- Document all patient visits in electronic medical record in a timely manner
- Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
- Interpret subjective and objective data to formulate a diagnosis
- Formulate treatment plans within the provider’s scope of practice
- Implement therapeutic interventions when appropriate
- Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic laboratory tests, EKGs and radiological studies
- Enter all orders for treatments and medications to be administered
- Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
- Provide patient education and counseling regarding disease processes, test results, discharge planning, and preventative healthcare
- Make appropriate referrals to other health professionals and community agencies
- Participate in the quality improvement process to include review of records and treatment plans
- Able to perform all services within the Maine Urgent Care scope of services
- Uphold MUC and CMH Policies and Procedures
- Uphold Urgent Care Association (UCA) regulatory requirements
Education and Experience:
- Unencumbered license to practice as PA or NP in the state of Maine
- PA must be a graduate of an accredited physician assistant program; NCCPA certified
- NP must be a graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- PA must complete 100 hours of CME every two (2) years and take the recertification exam every six (6) years
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS Certification required
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider ACLS preferred
- Experience in Occupational Health preferred
- DOT Medical Exam Certification required within 6 months of hire
- Experience in emergency department or urgent care setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience and proficiency in interpreting x-rays
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize patients by level of acuity
- Ability to establish and maintain effective patient relationships
- Ability to establish and maintain effective physician and co-worker relationships
- Exceptional verbal and written communication
- Experience working both independently and in team-based environments
- Must demonstrate reliability and accountability to team members and patients
- Proficient with computer skills including use of various electronic medical records
- Ability to work under pressure with precision and accuracy and to handle multiple projects simultaneously
