Position: Health Information Specialist
Status: Full-time
Hourly pay: $16-19 per hour; raises and bonuses based on performance
Job Summary:
We are looking for a health information specialist. Here, at Osterbind Law, we are invested in our clients and their cases. As the Health Information Specialist, your job is absolutely integral.
This position needs someone who is driven and tenacious to ensure our attorneys have what they need to represent our clients well. Sometimes that will take courage to deal with difficult individuals and situations. But you will always have the team at Osterbind Law to support you.

Our health information specialist will primarily consist of the gathering and organizing of medical records for over a hundred cases. The responsibilities include sending out requests for records, confirming that everything is received, reviewing the records to confirm nothing is missing, and consistently calling or following up with medical providers for missing information.
Once the records are received, they will need to be electronically organized into chronological order and bookmarked. Records that are unrelated to the case will need to be identified and separated. Then, there are summaries of expenses and treatment that need to be created and updated every time new records are received.
The health information specialist position will require someone who can see a task through to completion and find creative solutions to overcome obstacles and roadblocks. Sometimes you will have to deal with difficult people or systems. The right person for this job will be persistent and courageously pursue the needed information. The perfect person will be able to assess a situation and perceive the best way to proceed. They will also have to work well under deadlines and be consistent and dependable.
Lastly, communication is key in this business. This position will require someone who is great at communication, both oral and written. The job will require communication with attorneys, paralegals, medical providers, and clients.
Responsibilities:
- Following up with providers for missing information
- Organize records chronologically
- Determine relevant records
- Drafting narrative summaries of treatment
- Compiling itemized summaries of expenses
- Attending occasional conferences and seminars
- Reading various books on teamwork and business
- Electronic Case File Management: including scanning, creating electronic documents and organizing electronic documents

Osterbind Law, PLLC is a growing, family-run law firm in Lynchburg, Virginia that specializes in injury and disability law. Our fast-paced environment offers a comfortable and collaborative work environment as well as competitive compensation. The health information specialist job will work with a variety of people, mainly clients, medical providers, and outside administrative staff.
The hours will be 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with one hour provided for lunch.
Work Performance:
Brandon Osterbind and Julia Hinckle evaluate the performance of the health information specialist quarterly. Performance is evaluated on the following:
- Ability to listen to instructions
- Finishing projects in a timely manner
- Quality of work
