The role of the Nurse manager is to have oversight and ensures patient care and quality standards are met and comply with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Supervises and ensures continuous improvement of all clinical practices, services and operations by designing and implementing systems, processes and methods to evaluate and improve patient care within the unit. Manages day-to-day activities of the unit(s); monitors quality service and utilization standards; supervises shift(s) activities and delivery of patient care. Manages the critical care unit(s) day-to-day clinical operations including practice standards, staffing, payroll, budgets, fiscal management, and quality improvement. Works with other leaders, as a team, to help ensure best in practice, and evidence-based care is provided to all critical care patients throughout the campus and system.
Essential Job Functions
- Develops and oversees department cost centers to ensure adherence to organizational mission, vision, values, strategic goals, and business strategies.
- In collaboration with physician leadership and other medical staff, administration, and other health care providers, develops and implements short and long range plans, and leads, develops and revises programs which enhance department services.
- Develops, implements and maintains a service delivery model for the area accountability.
- Develops and maintains community relationships as it relates to the continuum of care.
- Participates in the development of patient care delivery models and/or care programs, nursing policies and procedures that describe how patient care needs and/or patient populations receiving nursing care are assessed, evaluated and met.
- Participates in the development and implementation of Billings Clinic’s plans for providing nursing care to patients.
- Promotes a learning environment that empowers nurses to provide safe, reliable, patient-centered nursing care that is effective, compassionate and efficient.
- Maintains appropriate skill/knowledge of application and patient relevance of commonly used equipment specific to area; pharmacological application; application of laboratory values with disease process or physiological status.
- Leads department in the overall marketing, program development, and service priorities.
- Markets and promotes programs and services to both internal and external healthcare providers and community members.
- Supports community education and awareness by conducting public education programs, participation in health fairs and other events.
- Develops, implements, and maintains a realistic, cost-effective annual budget.
- Practices process improvement principles to assess and improve the quality of the service/care provided within the department.
- Adheres to patient safety standards and identifies and anticipates problems and safety issues and initiates appropriate action.
- Champions and shares the practice implications of nursing research and evidence based practice.
- Develops, retains, recruits, and leads a talented team committed to accomplishing the goals and objectives of Billings Clinic.
- Participates in the evaluation, selection and integration of health care technology and information management systems that support quality of care/financial needs and the efficient use of resources.
- Oversees designing, implementing, evaluating and revising academic and continuing education programs offered at Billings Clinic for nurses.
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Minimum Qualifications Education
- Required - 4 Year / Bachelors Degree (BSN).
Experience
- 5 years of clinical experience in the NICU, required.
Certifications and Licenses
- Current Montana state license as a registered nurse, or compact nursing license with ability to obtain a MT RN license within 90 days of hire date.
- ACLS certification preferred or ability to successfully complete ACLS training within two years of hire.
- Current Montana driver’s license and the ability to be insured to operate Billings Clinic vehicles.
- Experience in a Magnet facility preferred.
- Demonstrated management/leadership and program management skills.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
