Key Responsibilities:
- Complete Activity Therapy assessments on all assigned cases; meet with each resident within timelines given, summarizing individual ability, motivation, and preference.
- Participate in Master Treatment planning and provide input towards treatment plan updates. Accurately document behaviors in the Therapeutic Progress section of each monthly Treatment Plan Update on assigned cases.
- Provide therapeutic recreation and expressive therapy groups as assigned and according to the unit schedule; group interventions directly related to Treatment Plan objectives; effectively manage group process to maximize therapeutic benefit.
- Role models and provides group facilitation training, and conducts group activities with deliberate therapeutic purpose.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment; organize the activity therapy area to minimize injuries, oversee the maintenance of equipment used in experiential activities.
- Support departmental goals by offering and accepting constructive feedback in all professional relationships, demonstrating healthy boundaries, modifying behavior in response to feedback.
- Work with interdisciplinary leadership team to support rules and expectations, communicating plans for activities in advance, bringing concerns or input in support of the therapeutic milieu.
- Accurately document progress in Weekly Progress toward Treatment Objectives, Recreation Specialist Weekly Progress Note on all assigned cases in a timely manner.
- Receive annual training to maintain State licensing requirements, maintain Wilderness First Responder certification, enhancing recreation therapy skills for Wilderness and Adventure experience programming.
- Carry out the personnel management activities associated with direct staff supervision, including screening and selection, orientation training and development, performance management and evaluation, and employee relations functions.
- Lead the recreation specialist internship program, including acting as the site coordinator, outlining intern responsibilities and evaluation.
- Provide all program staff with regular training to improve resident engagement skills and therapeutic outcomes for the program.
- Facilitate recreation program development, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: To excel in this role, you should have:
- Clinical Expertise: A bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, humanities, social work or a related therapeutic discipline field.
- Licensure: State of Alaska CTRS Preferred.
- Therapeutic Skills: Proficiency in providing psychotherapeutic services.
- Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
