The Tampa's VA Medical Center Geriatrics and Extended Care Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Hospice & Palliative Care Section Chief Physician. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- License and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training in Geriatric Medicine and/or Hospice & Palliative Care.
- Board Certification: In one or both of the following: Geriatric Medicine and/or Hospice & Palliative Care.
- English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
Board certified in Geriatric Medicine & Board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care with previous supervisory experience of 3-5 years.
Physical Requirements:
Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019. This position requires moderate lifting up to 44 lbs., carrying objects up to 15 lbs., frequent reaching above shoulder, and the ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The HPC Section Chief supervises physicians (MD), physician assistants (PA), and advanced practice registered nurses (APRN). Duties and responsibilities include:
- Providing administrative and clinical oversight of all HPC programs.
- Planning, developing, and maintaining a comprehensive program to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Ensuring the implementation and maintenance of standards for medical providers.
- Communicating provider responsibilities and coordinating assignments.
- Evaluating referrals for appropriateness and discussing them with the primary care physician.
- Contributing to the training of medical students and other interdisciplinary trainees.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor).
