Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist
Contract Duration: 3 Months
Location: Houston, TX
Position Type: Onsite, Tuesday-Saturday, 10 AM to 6:30 PM
Job Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Scientist plays a critical role in the laboratory, performing a variety of tests on patient specimens to assist in diagnosis and treatment. This position requires a strong understanding of laboratory procedures, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Specimen Handling and Processing: Follow established procedures for handling, processing, and testing patient specimens.
- Test Analysis and Reporting: Perform accurate test analyses, report results, and maintain detailed records.
- Quality Control: Ensure adherence to quality control policies, document activities, and calibrate equipment.
- Regulatory Compliance: Comply with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
- Problem Identification and Resolution: Identify and address issues that may affect test performance or reporting.
- Customer Service: Answer questions from customers or lab personnel, as needed.
- Record Keeping: Maintain complete records of all testing performed.
- Department Maintenance: Contribute to a clean and organized work environment.
- Training and Development: Participate in training sessions and stay updated on new procedures.
- Safety: Adhere to safety protocols, know the location of safety equipment, and participate in safety training.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433.
- Certification: National certification as an MT/MLT from a recognized organization (ASCP or AMT) is preferred.
- Experience: 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in highly complex testing is preferred.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of basic laboratory testing, good computer skills, and knowledge of QC, QA, and all areas of the laboratory.
- Skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and interact effectively with others. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Licensure: National and State licensure as required.
