Job Summary
Responsible for direction of patient care activities at Physicians Premier. Manages staff in the emergency Room, provides management of operations and nursing activities. The Nurse Director will ensure full compliance with the TAC 25 Chapter 131 including any and all State and Federal law in application of and fulfillment of the required job duties. Consults with staff, physicians, and the Medical Director on nursing problems and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met. The Board has the discretion to change or modify this job description and assign or reassign duties at any time with or without advance notice.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Responsible for direction of the Emergency Room (ER) staff. Supports and empowers staff to embrace the mission and value statements.
- Provides direct supervision to the front office manager/staff, RNs, radiology personnel, pharmacy and their relative managers/supervisors.
- Oversees the Pharmacy, Laboratory and Radiology efforts and complies with risk management/quality assurance, environment of care/life safety and infection control.
- Demonstrates sound judgement; applies effective written and oral communication skills with all business contacts including employees, vendors, patients, physicians and the general public.
- Required to travel in personal vehicle and/or travel by airplane if necessary.
- Enforces and ensures compliance with all applicable state, federal and local laws and requirements of agencies as applicable to clinical.
- Supports and maintains confidentiality of patients and company information. Ensures proper handling of storage of medical records to ensure compliance with HPPA regulations and the HITECH Act provision as required by law.
- Communicates with respect and fairness to employees, vendors, physicians, and administrative team.
- Prepares schedule to maintain adequate staff levels that meet unit requirements and state law.
- Maintains health records of staff. Prepares reports regarding census and other relative reports indicating utilization and productivity as requested.
- Takes reasonable measures to ensure that overtime expenses of subordinate employees are minimized.
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. May be required to work outside traditional work hours to meet the overall demands of the job and/or take calls after work hours.
- Engages with staff for work productivity and performs improvement activities for staff. Conducts competency evaluations of all staff members.
- Assures compliance with all policies and procedures as well as ensures that documentation meets current standards. Assists with the modification/development of policies and procedures, clinical and other related forms/documents to accommodate operation/required changes in accordance with local, State, and Federal laws.
- Provides education to staff on performance improvement. Ability to plan and organize orientation and in-service training for staff members; participates in guidance and educational programs.
- Performs management activities including interviewing, evaluating, and termination of staff. Attends monthly meetings with the Administrative Team and Governing Board.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the goals of Physicians Premier.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
- Completes annual education requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, and local regulations and accrediting organization standards.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
- Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians and staff.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directives to staff and encourages interactive meetings and discussions.
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's of Nursing Degree with three (3) or more years of experience in management and supervisory roles and five (5) years of emergency room experience in all aspects of emergency nursing. (These requirements may be waived by a majority decision of the Governing Board.)
- Current RN license within the Texas State Board of Nursing and in good standing.
- Current BLS Certification.
- Current ACLS Certification.
- Current PALS Certification.
- Preferred but not required TNCC and ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course).
- Preferred but not required Certification for Emergency Nursing (CEN).
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
SKILLS
- Advanced Computer Knowledge - Proficient in Word, Excel, Typing, Scanning, Copying, Faxing.
