Hitachi Energy is seeking for a R&D Team Lead for its Raleigh, NC location. This role is responsible for being charge of the Distribution Transformers R&D team in Raleigh reporting directly to the NAM Technology Center Manager. In addition to the managerial duties, the R&D Team Leader will participate actively in the definition and execution of the designated non-order R&D projects together with TC co-workers.
Your Responsibilities:
- Project execution: Manage the R&D function for NAM Distribution Transformers to ensure most effective local allocation and prioritization of resources within projects defined by Hitachi Energy Management in line with the Technology Roadmap.
- Oversees efficient, timely and quality project execution using the most appropriate internal and external resources and partners (e.g. universities, Hitachi Energy Research Centers) and control of cost and budgeting the projects. Ensures allocated R&D projects are delivered on time and on budget.
- Develops and improves processes in R&D and implements R&D process changes in different design fields and gate-phases.
- Ensures R&D function for NAM Distribution Transformers delivers with high quality meeting the success criteria defined for each individual R&D project and ensures KPIs are in place to be tracked.
- Organization and People development: Manages local TC resources for non-order related R&D activities, assigns tasks to team members, and supervises workload and work allocation within the project team.
- Ensures appropriate competencies are developed and acquired within the team to support development of future products and systems in line with Hitachi Energy R&D Technical and Project Management career paths.
- Ensures (with HR support) that the area of responsibility is properly organized, staffed, skilled and directed. Innovation and IP management: Ensures and fosters own organization and employees to have the ability to challenge status-quo in technical issues, projects and/or processes.
- Ensures protection of newly created intellectual property, and assists in defense and enforcement activities of related technology. Support TC co-workers in invention disclosures or IP related activities.

Your Background:
- Master or Ph.D. degree in Engineering.
- Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
- Previous experience in leadership, management or project management positions, minimum 3 years. Experience in R&D or Engineering activities in Transformers, minimum 5 years.
- Excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively lead, manage, and energize cross-functional teams across multiple sites with good leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with internal customers at all organizational levels. Preferred: Previous experience with design and simulation tools.
- Experience in Industry organizations as IEEE, IEC, CIGRE, ASTM. Previous experience working in Global projects. Previous experience in the field of IP. Demonstrable interest in new fields of research and technology.
