Hope For Youth provides a full-day accredited education program within two (2) structured classrooms at our Amityville location. In addition, the Education Program provides support to residents attending their local public school. The Education team consists of full-time and part-time employees, who work through an academic school year. The education staff also provides support and guidance for residents in achieving goals outside the classroom including internships, vocational opportunities, and other community involvement.
This year, HFY has an opening for a Recreational Health & Wellness Instructor/Teacher Aid for the Education reporting to the Education Coordinator.
Job Responsibilities:
- With guidance from the Education Coordinator, plan and implement appropriate instruction/learning strategies and activities, including determining appropriate kind and level of materials.
- Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
- Teach knowledge of, and develop skills and abilities in, physical fitness, coordination and agility, exercise, sports and health.
- Supervise/monitor students' behavior in the classroom.
- Organize and maintain a system of accurate and complete record-keeping, lesson planning, grading, and reporting.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program and provide assistance as directed by teachers.
- Participate in Education, DES, and NSD staff meetings.
- Perform other resulting and necessary work to meet the needs and requirements of the clients, the program, Hope For Youth, oversight agency, and any other legal or regulatory obligations.
Qualifications/Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- NYS Teaching certification preferred, not required (efforts towards pursuit of NYS certification encouraged).
- Physical Requirements: read/write reports and log entries, walking/standing for prolonged periods, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, repetitive wrist/finger movements, lifting up to 50lbs.
To be a successful Recreational Health & Wellness Instructor/Teacher Aid you must be willing and able to do the following always:
- Function with agency's policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual.
- Function within the agency's policy and procedures as outlined in the program guide and applicable codes of conduct.
- Achieve successful outcomes within guidelines outlined in NYS, County, and HFY policy and procedure (shared).
This opportunity is being offered at a pay range of $40,000-$41,500 annually, based on a 33 hours per week.
