Summary:
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for simulations, treatments, chart checks, scheduling, weekly chart checks, machine warm up and shut down, performing QA tasks on machines, educating patients, and taking on-call shifts or any other tasks deemed necessary to perform their job, under the direction and supervision of the Physician, Department Manager, and Lead Radiation Therapist. Quality Assurance of the treatment and simulation equipment are performed daily. Therapist must follow all departmental policies and ensure that safety procedures are followed to protect the patient as well as themselves. Must monitor the patient at all times whether that is during a simulation, treatment, or having the procedure. They must check patient for reactions to treatment and listen to any concerns the patient or family member has and must be able to communicate this to the Physician and Nursing Staff. Therapists may be involved in patient education, daily cleaning of treatment rooms, tables, changing rooms, etc as well as scheduling daily treatments and coordinating with appointments in other areas. May be involved in daily screening of patients entering the department. May be involved in other Special Procedures such as, but not limited to: SRS, SRT, SBRT, and HDR. Must be flexible to cover early and late shifts as well as some weekend, holiday, and call shifts as needed. May also be assigned any other tasks deemed necessary to perform their job.

- Practices appropriate hand hygiene policies and applies techniques of good body mechanics while performing job related tasks.
- Seeks ways to improve quality of services provided.
- Obtains assessments and documents all in EMR daily. Verifies and documents SSD's weekly and notifies dosimetry of variances of 1.5 or greater.
- Simulation: Ensures that Orders are placed and appropriate prior to sim. Verifies that consent is signed, selects immobilization devices, performs all documentation including QCL's and daily sim sheets.
- Treatment: Delivers Physician prescribed treatment. Verifies patient setup and that chart is signed and ready for treatment. Verifies prescription daily. Takes images according to Rx, reviews for accuracy and for changes requested by the MD.
- Participates in Linear Accelerator warm-up and special procedure QA in alignment with current departmental policies and protocols as needed.
- Provides excellent customer service, both for internal and/or external customers.
- Responds to communications (phone calls, voice mail messages, and emails) in a timely manner.
- Consistent and reliable attendance, including communication and attempts to find coverage when legitimate issues prevent or inhibit attendance.
- Monitors side effects and determines when to contact nursing staff. Recognizes the patients need for referral to other care providers. Refers appropriate questions to the Physician.
- Works well with students. Provides students with proper instruction and a well balanced learning environment.
- Is a competency trainer for Radiation therapists including machines, Sim, chart checks, scheduling, etc.
- Seeks out ways to reduce operating costs or increase efficiency within role/department.
- Acts in a cost conscious manner with regard to use of supplies.
- Makes effective use of time at work. When not busy, seeks out additional tasks from Lead Therapist or Manager.
Other Information:
Education: Required Associates Degree from a JRCERT accredited school in Radiologic Technology. ARRT Registered and must have State of Maine license as a Radiation Therapy Technologist.
Experience: Familiar with Mosaiq Record and Verify System and Varian Linear Accelerators is preferred. Fast paced department that treats many patients of all age groups, on a daily basis. Must be knowledgeable of age specific protocols and procedures. Skills: Time management and problem-solving abilities, effective communication, customer service, flexibility. Must be BLS certified and able to administer CPR in emergency situations.
Physical Requirements: Visual acuity, standing or walking 80% of day, 20% sitting while checking charts or scheduling. Manual dexterity is required to manipulate patients and operate equipment. Some lifting, pulling, and reaching when moving patients on and off treatment and simulation tables.

- Required: Amer Reg Rad Technologist Cert
- Required: Radiologic Tech-Radiographer
Education:
- Required: Associate's Degree from a JRCERT accredited school in Radiologic Technology.
