The Scrub Technician, under the direct supervision of the O.R. Staff Nurse, provides patient care through scrubbing surgical cases and assisting the R.N. with circulating duties by helping to obtain the appropriate supplies, instruments and equipment for the surgical procedure.

High School Diploma - Preferred
Experience
1 Year Operating room scrub experience - Preferred
License & Certification
National Certification - Required
Graduate of an ORT course
Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
Core Job Functions
- Light sources, instruments and accessory equipment are consistently checked for proper functioning. Performs as an assistant to attending physician under the direction of a physician or registered nurse. Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures by cleaning counters, light sources, carts, emptying suction canisters and sets up appropriate equipment for next procedure.
- Perform as buddy scrub as required. Build relationships with surgeons. Network with scrub technicians.
- Correct procedure card for supplies and instruments is identified and used. Sufficient quantities of supplies and instruments are pulled for each procedure. Case carts are completed accurately and promptly.
- Participates in and serves on at least one unit based or system committee. Acts as a resource and preceptor for newly hired staff.
- Maintains certification and encourages 100% departmental compliance in certification status.
