Summary
Inpatient Nurse Technician (Nurse Tech) functions under the general direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse within the department. Nurse Tech provides patient care by performing the listed duties within context of their job description and the established procedures and standards of care of the unit. The Nurse Tech must be a junior or senior (or equivalent) in an approved school of nursing.
Position Reports To: Unit Nurse Manager/Director
Essential Functions
- Perform related assignments and tasks as requested in order to promote positive visitor, family, and staff relations.
- Demonstrates competence in providing care routines in accordance with established nursing care procedure to ensure patients' comfort and safety.
- Takes and records vital signs, height, weight, intake and output, and other measurements as applicable, in an accurate and timely manner. Reports all variations from normal to the RN in charge of the patient.
- Hourly rounding on patients
- Providing basic hygiene needs such as bathing, shaving, and dressing.
- Assists patients with elimination needs.
- Prepares patients for meals, assists in feeding patients (if necessary), distributes fresh water and other nourishment according to patients’ needs
- Assist in collection of specimens such as stool and urine specimens.
- Perform Point of Care testing to include Guaiac of stool specimens, urine dipstick, Glucose fingerstick.
- Performs routine specialized procedures based on individual skill competency, such as
- Placement of pulse oximetry and oxygen under the direction of RN.
- Peripheral Intravenous insertion/removal
- Urinary catheterization; insertions, removal, straight cath, Along with performing external and condom catheter application.
- Sterile dressing changes
- Simple wound care
- Nasogastric insertion/removal
- Assist with set up for selected procedures under the direction of the primary RN
- Understand principles of correct body mechanics and can apply these in assisting patients during transfer, lifting and ambulation.
- Transports stable patients under the direction of nursing staff.
- Assists with admission and discharge of patients under the direction of the primary RN, such as room set up, assisting patient with comfort, dressing, obtaining initial/discharge vital signs, assist patient with personal belongings and transport of patient to vehicle on discharge.
- Maintains competency and fulfills the role as a Bedside Assistant for both behavioral and medical related reasons, including restraint monitoring.
- Demonstrate compliance with Standard Precautions and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Documents accurately and timely in the patient medical record.
- Adheres to Confluence Health and Central Washington Hospital/Wenatchee Valley Hospital policies and unit standards as applicable.
- Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
- Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Qualifications
Required:
- Nursing Technician License (NTEC) through Washington State DOH.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
- Current BLS.
- Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.
Desired:
- Recent work experience in Emergency Medicine, acute care or related field.
- Current CNA, MA-P, MA-C.
