Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:To provide diagnostic Computed Tomography Services to inpatients, outpatients, and Emergency Department patients under the direction of the supervising radiologist in accordance with established operating procedures and clinical protocols. To provide safe, prompt, efficient, and cost effective CT Services.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSAssociate's Degree or Certificate in Radiology Technology
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTSIEMA Radiography License Illinois or Temp IEMA upon hire
Radiography (R)(ARRT) within 1 year
Computed Tomography (CT)(ARRT) within 1 year.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGEBasic knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and basic CT procedures. Good oral and written communication skills. Computer competent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Positions patients correctly, using proper immobilization techniques.
- Performs optimal scans using correct technical factors, shielding and protocols, based on the patient diagnosis, history and other relevant clinical information.
- Uses correct technical factors in accordance with the American College of Radiology (ACR) to use the lowest amount of radiation to get a diagnostic scan.
- Performs CT angiography, 3D, MIPS, VR, Vessel Analysis, and MPR's, post processing of computer data to enhance exams for radiologist interpretation, using reconstruction software appropriate to the pathology or region of interest.
- Follows correct CT Department Technologist workflow (select correct scan room, identifies and documents two forms of identification on each patient, acquires history, verifies orders, scans patient, sends images to PACS, scans all paperwork and data sheets, completes the case in Meditech, addresses QA issues, charges for contrast media and supplies, verifies that all images, series and data sheets have been sent to PACS, makes sure the number of images is correct, verifies exams with images and archives images on scanner).
- Operates support equipment for CT such as: Independent workstation, pressure injector, PACS and EPIC systems.
- Initiates IV for administration of contrast media for CT in accordance with department policy and utilizing standard precautions.
- Prepares patient for exams by explaining procedure and by encouraging questions and answering any questions the patient may have.
- Transports patients to and from departments when necessary. Assists in transfer of patients on and off the CT table. Continually monitors patient condition during CT procedure.
- Works with radiologist in the tailoring of protocols to meet patient exam requirements.
- Refers difficult complaints or sensitive issues to department management.
- Accountable for documentation of and charging for supplies used during the performance of exams or procedures.
- Documents confidential patient history to ensure appropriateness of exam and contrast media.
- Documents patient charge data, modifying and initiating charges as procedure modifications are made per the radiologist or ordering physician.
- Documents any allergic reaction, IV extravasations or unusual occurrences. Initiates incident report regarding staff or patient situations.
- Maintains license and continuing education.
- Injects contrast media after proper patient screening.
- Ensures the proper exam is being administered to the patient. Consults provider as needed.
