The Department of Surgery at the MetroHealth System is seeking a full-time academic Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeon at the Assistant Professor Level to join our Bariatric Surgery Program. Candidates should be Board eligible or Board-certified General Surgeons with fellowship training in Bariatric Surgery, a strong work ethic, and commitment to high-quality care. New grads are encouraged to apply and will work under the direction and mentorship of the Program Director, Sergio Bardaro, MD, FACS, FASMBS, DABS-FPMBS.
The MetroHealth System is a nationally recognized academic medical center and tertiary referral center with 731 licensed beds. MetroHealth is one of the largest health care providers in Ohio with more than 700 primary care and specialty care physicians. All active staff physicians in the Department of Surgery hold faculty appointments at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Our Weight Loss Surgery and Weight Management Program is a fully Certified MBSAQIP Comprehensive Center with Obesity Medicine Qualifications.

Position Overview:
As a Bariatric Surgeon at MetroHealth, you will be responsible for surgical evaluation and management of morbid obesity and associated conditions. We seek an individual with a passion for caring for patients suffering from morbid obesity. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of delivering high-quality care, expertise in minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy, and a commitment to managing obesity and metabolic disease using a multi-disciplinary team approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluation and management of patients suffering from morbid obesity and associated co-morbid conditions.
- Support the growth of our Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Program.
- Active participation in academic opportunities.
- Engagement in multi-disciplinary care of patients suffering from morbid obesity.
- Participate in a quality improvement program based on clinical practice guidelines from the MBSAQIP.
- Involvement in the teaching and education of medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Work under the direction and mentorship of our Program Director and the Department of Surgery leadership.
- Obtain yearly CME credits to become a MBSAQIP verified surgeon.
- Participate in peer review initiatives to enhance education and improve patient-centered care.
- Adhere to the mission and policies of the MetroHealth System.
Qualifications:
- Board eligible or Board-certified General Surgeon with fellowship training in Bariatric Surgery.
- An exemplary work ethic and an understanding of the importance of becoming a role model.
- Commitment to education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Understanding the importance of mentorship from the Program Director.
