Ideal Candidate:
- Medical degree (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience required
- Board certification in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or Molecular Genetic Pathology
- Completion of a fellowship or additional training in Molecular Genetic Pathology
- In-depth knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, and genomics
- Experience with molecular laboratory techniques, including DNA sequencing, PCR, and FISH
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems and molecular analysis software
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for accurate interpretation of complex molecular data
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with healthcare teams
- Ability to stay updated with advancements in the field through continued medical education and research
- Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and quality assurance principles in molecular pathology

Base Salary Range: up to $350,000 annually
Job Responsibilities:
This role involves analyzing and interpreting genetic and molecular alterations in patient samples to aid in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment selection for various diseases, including cancers and genetic disorders. Molecular Pathologists work in laboratory settings, collaborating with other healthcare professionals and contributing to patient care through accurate molecular diagnostics.
Molecular Testing and Analysis:
- Perform/oversee molecular laboratory testing, including DNA sequencing, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and other molecular techniques.
- Analyze/interpret molecular test results to identify genetic mutations, gene expressions, or other molecular alterations associated with diseases.
- Evaluate the clinical significance and relevance of molecular findings in the context of patient's medical history and available literature.
Diagnoses and Reporting:
- Provide accurate and timely diagnostic reports based on molecular findings, contributing to patient care and treatment decisions.
- Collaborate with other pathologists, oncologists, and healthcare professionals to integrate molecular information into overall patient management and treatment plans.
- Ensure adherence to quality control and quality assurance standards in molecular testing, reporting, and documentation.
Research and Development:
- Stay abreast of latest advancements in molecular pathology, genomics, and personalized medicine to enhance diagnostic capabilities.
- Contribute to research initiatives, including the design and execution of molecular studies, data analysis, and publication of scientific findings.
- Participate in the development and validation of new molecular tests and techniques, working closely with laboratory staff and regulatory bodies.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including pathologists, oncologists, genetic counselors, and researchers, to discuss complex cases and share expertise.
- Communicate and educate clinicians, patients, and other stakeholders about molecular test results, their implications, and potential treatment options.
- Act as a consultant for other healthcare professionals seeking guidance on molecular testing, test selection, and interpretation.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines, accreditation standards, and applicable laboratory protocols.
- Monitor and participate in proficiency testing programs to maintain and improve the accuracy and reliability of molecular testing.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory processes and patient care outcomes.
