Job Purpose or Summary:
Provides differential diagnosis for patients with functional disorders, including writing reports to contracted facilities and patients’ physicians. Plans, organizes, and conducts therapy programs in hospital, institutional, or community settings to help rehabilitate those impaired due to illness, injury, and psychological or developmental problems. Assists the patient, family, and appropriate restorative personnel in obtaining information relative to specific disorders while in a rehabilitation setting to facilitate patient recovery. Interacts regularly with other members of the rehabilitation team and nursing staff on the patient's treatment plan, progress, and prognosis. Evaluates patient progress and prepares reports that detail such progress. Ensures that all required written documentation is completed and appropriately placed in a timely manner. Tests and evaluates patients' physical and mental abilities and analyzes medical data to determine realistic rehabilitation goals for patients.
Organizational Relationships:
Supervises: Responsible for the care delivered by COTAs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides differential diagnosis for patients with functional disorders, including written reports to both contracted facilities and patients' physicians.
- Establishes and carries out treatment programs based on diagnostic information to meet the patients' activities of daily living needs.
- Assists patients, families, and appropriate restorative personnel to obtain information relative to specific disorders while in the rehabilitation setting.
- Interacts regularly with other members of the rehabilitation team and nursing staff on the patients' treatment plan, progress, and prognosis.
- Maintains good rapport with significant administrative and restorative nursing personnel in all facilities in their area.
- Ensures all required written documentation is completed and appropriately placed in a timely manner.
- Submits logs and all billing information on a timely basis.
- Reports any problem areas within each facility to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
- Complies with the State Licensing Board of California, Title 22, CMS, and California Labor Board Guidelines.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Licensure/Certification:
Must have a Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Occupational Therapy or a related degree plus 5 years of experience. Alternatively, a Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Occupational Therapy or a related degree with no experience will be accepted. Must be licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the State of California.
