The Louisiana State Racing Commission regulates horse racing at the four racetracks throughout the state: Bossier City, New Orleans, Opelousas, and Vinton. Each track has three full-time veterinarians: two conduct pre-race physical inspections of every horse entered to race and monitor the horses on the track during the races, and one controls the on-site equine drug testing program.
The incumbent must possess a license to practice Veterinary Medicine in the State of Louisiana issued by the Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medicine and be available to work flexible schedules on an intermittent basis, which may require travel to various locations throughout the state.
We currently have two full-time openings: one pre-race and one test barn position.
- Pre-race is at Evangeline Downs in Opelousas
- Test Barn is at Delta Downs in Vinton
We also have non-benefits eligible relief positions open statewide. Salary is $55.85 hourly.
Duties include:
- Conducting pre-race physical inspections of every horse entered to race that day.
- Overseeing and controlling the test barn for collection of blood and urine samples for testing horses for medications.
- Conducting visual inspections of horses warming up prior to the start of a race and tending to any injuries that occur prior to, during, or after the running of a race.
The Louisiana State Racing Commission is a SAME agency.
