ResponsibilitiesPOSITION SUMMARY:
- Focuses primarily on RN-to-RN screenings, (i.e. reviewing H&P, labs, and other clinical documentations) for all admissions and ensures patients are medically appropriate for admission.
- Responds to inquiry calls regarding services.
- Oversees the admission process including the appropriateness of the admission, completion RN to RN screenings, orders for the admissions, and any additional required paperwork.
- Assists in assigning unit/program based on patient needs.
- Knowledgeable and able to explain Hospital programs and services.
- Provides accurate and complete information to physicians regarding RN-to-RN screening.
- Communicates with physicians and providers to receive admission orders and medical clearance as needed.
- Assures compliance with all applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations that pertain to psychiatric admissions.
- Maintains data/records regarding the admission process for medical screenings.
- Completes medical screening evaluations and triaging on all patients who present for an assessment in accordance with EMTALA laws.
- Provides first aid and medical care as needed.
- Coordinate transfer of those patients requiring a higher level of medical care and/or medical clearance.
- Has a strong understanding of the department computer systems.
- Conducts the initial assessment which includes prior treatment history, previous medications, health screen, family dynamics and risk factors.

Education: Associates Degree or BSN in Nursing from an accredited Nursing program is required.
Experience: 1+ year(s) experience working within an inpatient mental health field preferred, and strong prior experience with med-surg nursing and/or providing medical clearance for patients. Knowledgeable of basic growth and development across the life span to properly screen patients.
Licensure/Certification: IL Registered Nurse licensure or higher.
Supervision Received: Directors of Emergency Services and Nursing, Assistant Director, Lead Clinician and/or Supervisor.
Supervision Exercised: None.
Line of Promotion: Lead Admission Nurse and/or Director of Emergency Services.
Working Conditions: Works in the Emergency Services Department, the inpatient units and other areas of the Hospital. Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. General hospital environment.
Physical Requirements: Ability to proficiently communicate verbally and in writing. Physical agility to manage patients. Push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching and stooping.
