Job Description
At VillageMD, we're looking for a Regional Education Medical Director to help us transform the way primary care is delivered and how patients are served. As a national leader on the forefront of healthcare, we've partnered with many of today's best Physicians. The Regional Education Medical Director will be a regional role dedicated to clinical documentation education strategy, implementation, oversight, and delivery. This position will collaborate with Physician leadership colleagues to define clinical documentation criteria and implement strategies to improve Physician/APP engagement and knowledge.

We are looking for a Regional Education Medical Director who will develop, implement, and deliver clinical documentation and quality support and education; and provide direction and oversight for both internal and external resources engaged in coding activities.
How you can make a difference
- Develop education strategy within the assigned geographic region to address individual as well as group needs in order to enhance awareness and understanding around the company’s clinical policies.
- Direct clinical documentation/quality improvement activities within the region to improve overall knowledge of Physicians/Advanced Practice providers within the organization.
- Coach provider groups and/or individual settings creating organizational consistency in the application of clinical guidelines.
- Mentor, guide, and train Practice Medical Directors.
- Inform clinical correlations based on medical experience that are used in educational materials regarding Clinical Documentation and Quality.
- Supervise, support, and educate Advanced Practice Providers who will be seeing patients via our virtual platform.
- Lead the virtual Advanced Practice Providers on best clinical practice to decrease inappropriate utilization of resources and capture missed chronic condition documentation.
- Participate in performance trend identification by analyzing data from both macro-outcomes and focused clinical documentation review results.
- Continued iterating on strategy of educational delivery by partnering with clinical leadership to maintain effective partnerships of coding educators and clinical leaders; accounting for volume, personality styles, and other factors which will lead to the most effective outcomes.
- Create high quality, effective educational strategy & content for the Physicians/APPs in the organization and affiliate Physicians/APPs associated within the assigned region.
- Design a method to identify effectiveness of education delivery, monitor and reiterate content as needed.
- Identify and resolve issues that negatively impact the ability to deliver effective, high-quality health care by working with and guiding Physicians/APPs to achieve the best quality outcomes.
- Develop project plans, workflows, and timelines.
- Ensure that stakeholders/teams appropriately carry out associated work to ensure completion.
- Create high quality, effective, educational content for the Physicians/APPs in the organization.
- Lead & collaborate with SVP of clinical support/Senior Medical Directors/Market CMO/Coding Operations/and Coding Compliance to establish and enhance clinical documentation guidelines and education materials.
- Collaborate/oversee audits or other ad hoc projects in order to determine opportunities for further improvement of the clinical documentation programs.
Skills for success
- Excellent verbal skills to lead large group training sessions.
- Medical Doctor Degree (MD or DO).
- Active state license and ability to be licensed in other states within the VillageMD enterprise.
- Licensure and willingness to supervise Advanced Practice Providers virtually.
- Leadership and change management skills.
- Successful completion of Coding Certificate program from an accredited organization: Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) required.
- 10+ years of experience in a clinical setting required.
- Proficient in MS Office (PPT, Excel, Publisher).
- Strong creative problem-solving skills with demonstrated aptitude to identify research and make decisions.
- Ability to lead meetings and drive change with internal and external stakeholders, maintain project timelines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Training/education experience preferred.
- Self-motivated and able to work in a team environment.
- Extensive HEDIS Quality Measure knowledge required.
- This role can be based in one of VillageMD's current markets; up to 50% travel is required. Travel will be primarily with your assigned region within Texas.
Experience to drive change
- Proven leadership experience including program development and implementation and identifying and deploying cross-organization best practices in Quality, coding, and risk capture.
- You’ve previously built projects from the ground up and have a strong interest in mentoring talent.
- You are skilled at partnering with internal and external parties and coaching around best practices.
- You have a keen focus on results, and can navigate within ambiguity while maintaining a high-level of humility.
- You have experience in clinical leadership by driving change in large groups of Physicians/APPs.
