Snapshot of key accountabilities of the Ultrasound Technician:
- Must meet requirements outlined in PPSENFL Medical Standards and Guidelines for ultrasound in abortion services.
- Perform ultrasound imaging procedures of clients for the purposes of pregnancy dating, identification of the presence or absence of cardiac activity, and fetal number.
- The ability to recognize when findings require evaluation by a Physician.
- Provide appropriate patient information regarding ultrasound procedure, its purpose, and limitations.
- Screens medical and social history with correct documentation of pertinent information.
- Queries/acknowledges patient’s feelings around abortion decision and the ultrasound imaging procedure.
- Properly cleans, maintains equipment, and disposes of contaminated supplies.
- Maintain clear and accurate medical records, utilizing electronic health record system.
- Assist in the maintenance of facility for cleanliness, appropriate instruments, and optimum supply levels.
- Assist in the maintenance of ultrasound equipment for proper functioning in accordance with the policies and standards of Planned Parenthood and regulatory agencies.
- Perform basic clerical operations; i.e., answer phones, make appointments, take messages, transferring records for patients to other agency health centers, ensures completion of health center records and required forms.
- Explain all FDA approved birth control methods and provide specific instruction on the client’s selected birth control method.
- Perform medical and social history intake.
- Complete basic lab work and follow procedures required by Standards and Guidelines, State and/or federal licensing entities (i.e. CLIA).
- Make referrals for additional patient care, when indicated.
- Monitor flow of patient to assist ARNP and expedite service.
- Perform all recordkeeping duties related to patient care with accuracy.
- Demonstrate proficiency in collecting and entering payments and documenting in the computer.
- Perform housekeeping and stocking duties within health center daily, weekly, and as needed.
Experience and Education:
- Ultrasound Certification/Licensure preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year experience preferred.
- Medical / Health Care related certificate or diploma preferred.
- High School graduate or equivalent required.
- Experience in phlebotomy, injections, pregnancy, and HIV counseling.
- Strong commitment to family planning care and reproductive rights.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills required.
- Computer knowledge required with electronic health record system preferred.
Benefits and Compensations:
- Hourly compensation range: Starting at $23.00 hour for non-licensed US Techs with experience.
- Eligible for all applicable benefits effective the first of the month following 60 days from your hire date.
- Paid Time Off, accrues immediately but can't be taken until after 90 full days of employment: 3 weeks of paid time off, 10 recognized Holidays in addition to PTO, 1 personal day, and birthday.
