Waverley Christian College is a forward thinking and culturally diverse Christian co-educational school from Kinder to Year 12. With campuses in Wantirna South and Narre Warren South, Waverley Christian College has an enrolment of over 2400 students with 400 staff across both campuses in 2024.
The College is seeking a part-time (FTE 0.4) Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader to commence Term 1, 2025 to support our College-wide student wellbeing program. This role is government funded through the Mental Health in Primary Schools Program and is therefore a fixed term contract for the 2025 school year.
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified VIT teacher who is passionate about supporting students with Mental Health and Wellbeing across our Primary Sub-Schools. In conjunction with key leaders of the College, this role will have a particular focus on designing and embedding a Biblically-shaped wellbeing program for the classroom.
You will use your knowledge of teaching and the student experience to boost the capacity and capability of teachers’ mental health literacy, help support teachers to know when and how to refer students internally within the College and drive new mental health and wellbeing initiatives across the school.
The successful candidate will be provided training in mental health literacy, supporting emerging needs, and building school capacity and receive ongoing support and professional development through structured and regular Communities of Practice. Training is developed and facilitated by the Melbourne Graduate School of Education at University of Melbourne, supported by Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.
Minimum Requirements:
- Be a qualified teacher and hold a current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
- Have demonstrated ability to inform and influence the work of others involved in the engagement, mental health, wellbeing or learning of children and young people.
- Have demonstrated experience supporting a student’s mental health, wellbeing or learning by developing and maintaining connection with external services.
- Have high level communication and interpersonal skills.
- Have current First Aid qualifications and Anaphylaxis Certificate or be willing to obtain these prior to commencement.
- Be able to show a commitment to the values and ethos of Christian education.
- Be willing to get involved in all aspects of the College’s programs and opportunities.
