In collaboration with the Alameda County Area Manager, you will provide leadership, direction, and oversight in the delivery of laboratory services.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for managing a highly complex CLIA-designated laboratory, assuring reliable, high-quality, patient-focused services, which comply with licensing requirements. Supervises all laboratory staff and provides efficient and effective leadership in all aspects of supervising the laboratory.
- Supervises laboratory testing and clerical staff and daily laboratory operations to ensure efficiency and timeliness in the provision of services by constant enforcement of agency standards.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Monitors the quality control/assurance program for the lab, test results, and equipment. Prepares and monitors quality control charts, instrument function checks, and instrument maintenance protocols to ensure quality and integrity of results.
- Establishes policies and procedures, cross-site training, competency testing for point of service testing personnel and conducts periodic site visits. Supports point of service CLIA-waived testing as needed by answering technical questions, giving in-services on new equipment and procedures, proficiency testing, and providing new product information.
- Maintains instrumentation as needed to keep continuity of laboratory services intact by troubleshooting problems and guiding employees in basic maintenance procedures and ensuring routine maintenance.
- Maintain safety in the laboratory as per regulations for hazardous waste management.
- Hires appropriate laboratory personnel to ensure the proper staffing complement and skill levels to handle the daily workload. Trains and evaluates technical competency of testing and phlebotomy personnel and initiates remedial instruction for staff observed to be lacking in competency.
- Maintains a working knowledge and skills for tests performed in the lab. Performs technical tasks in the absence of a technologist or as workload demands.
- Fosters and maintains communications with all stakeholders in a moderately complex lab.
- Liaisons with reference labs to ensure the receipt of timely reports for providers and resolving billing issues between patients, La Clinica, and the reference labs.
- Prepares and monitors the annual budget to ensure the financial viability of laboratory services. Reviews each invoice for accuracy.
- Investigates all physician, patient, and departmental complaints by direct contact with involved parties and documentation of follow-up actions taken.
- Participates in Medical Operations team meetings to provide technical laboratory information and advice as needed.
- Writes procedures, holds monthly laboratory meetings and in-services as needed to provide the guidance and information to perform all laboratory tasks and duties.
- Responsible for preparation and management of CLIA and COLA site inspections as they occur.
- May require occasional travel to other La Clinica sites to monitor QA/PT programs at other CLIA-waived/PPMP labs.
- Provides guidance and subject matter expertise to clinicians regarding available tests.
- Coordinates with reference labs regarding shared space, including drawing and processing of specimens.
- Liaises between La Clinica staff and reference lab account representatives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of CLIA, API, NCQA, Title 22, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ability to work independently and with a team, supervise and instruct others, and communicate effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with peers, staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Must be well-organized, meticulous, and accurate.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse staff and patient population.
Education and Experience:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related science.
- Must possess a valid California license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Bio-Analyst, or Special Clinical Laboratory Technologist by the State of California State Dept. of Health and by MTASCP certified.
- Must have a minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity with demonstrated capabilities to manage a clinical lab with a staff of 5 or more employees.
- Computer experience/proficiency in Microsoft Office and any other applications required.
Physical Requirements:
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Bending/lifting, pushing/pulling, adjusting, or moving objects weighing up to 15 pounds in all directions and occasionally more.
- Repeating motions that may include the neck, wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Upper extremity demands: Reaching above shoulder and/or below waist.
