Primary Purpose:
Under the guidance of more senior medical writers, this position is responsible for creating technical and medical content that meets information needs related to laboratory testing. The Medical Writer II works with medical directors and other ARUP personnel to complete writing assignments according to set processes and standards.

Essential Functions:
- Initiates and completes moderately complex tasks involved in writing, editing, and synthesizing technical content about laboratory testing for use by physicians.
- Develops, edits, critically analyzes, revises, and maintains technical and medical content for both print and digital platforms according to established standards.
- Maintains effective communication and collaboration with teammates with other teams and personnel throughout the organization.
- Collects, analyzes, and organizes source materials from, and coordinates the review of drafts with, applicable ARUP employees.
- Provides communication, updates, and correspondence frequently and as required while working with a team of writers, copy editors, and medical staff.
- Demonstrates adaptability by embracing change with a positive attitude.
- Demonstrates ability to make sound professional judgements related to content based on previous medical writing experience and content expertise.
- Contributes to maintenance of a library of all content and utilizes a content management system and/or other tools for output publishing and/or interfacing with other systems.
- Develops and assesses functional and efficient workflow for content production.
- Participates in and may lead appropriate team meetings as needed.
- Ensures that audits of content and reporting are performed and reviewed periodically.
- Proposes ways to make the department more efficient and more effective and assists with the development of department policies and procedures as needed.
- Provides feedback to help inform modification of procedures and policies and assists with implementing any necessary modifications.
- Stays informed of all procedures and procedural changes.
- Maintains confidentiality of laboratory results/information according to ARUP policies.
- Demonstrates professional demeanor in personal appearance and behavior in all work-related interactions, including remote meetings.
- Participates in relevant learning opportunities at ARUP and with related professional organizations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical and Other Requirements:
- Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
- Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Communicate: Frequently and effectively communicate with others.
- PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
- ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
- Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
- Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.

Education
Required
Bachelor's Degree or better in Communication or related field.
Experience
Required
Bachelor’s degree in English, Business, Communications, Biology or related science Or bachelor’s degree in another relevant area with three years’ experience in the health-care industry.
Three years of experience in medical and/or technical writing and editing.
Preferred
Three years of experience in healthcare-related industry.
Familiarity with Smartsheet.
Familiarity with Drupal or other content management systems for document management and online publishing.
Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the medical field.
