Under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists with a variety of endoscopic procedures for patients of varying ages. Provides assistance in setting up and maintaining endoscopy equipment and supplies. Uses established policies, procedures, and ANSI/AAMI guidelines for receiving, decontaminating, transporting, and disinfecting medical equipment. Maintains and prepares endoscopy equipment for the procedure room according to Manufacturer Instructions for Use (MIFU).
Provides technical assistance to physicians performing endoscopic procedures for inpatients and outpatients, including general and advanced procedures such as Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) using Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), active bleeders, colonic stent, esophageal stent, hepatobiliary stent placement procedures, Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection, and Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD). Provides on-call coverage for urgent/emergent procedures as scheduled and assists with the maintenance of a clean environment within the department.
Work Experience:
One year of experience in a hospital, clinic, or endoscopy setting preferred.
License/Registration/Certification:
Current CPR Certification.
Education and Training:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Skills:
Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to use judgment in problem solving.
Knowledge of supplies and equipment used in endoscopy procedures.
Knowledge of machines, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Ability to troubleshoot operating errors and apply effective decision-making to correct errors.
Ability to conduct tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
Knowledge of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills.
Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
