Position Summary
Functions as a senior level healthcare provider working under the delegated authority of a supervising physician. The role and responsibilities extend beyond those of the Physician Assistant and are focused on providing advanced clinical services. In collaboration with an attending physician, is responsible for the coordination and direct care of patients within specialty area(s) and clinical protocols as needed. This role is also responsible for providing patient and clinical staff education and ensures compliance with clinical policies & procedures.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs advanced clinical services or other tasks delegated by the supervising physician, consistent with education, training and practice protocols, policies and procedures.
- Provides recommendations on improvements to workflows and patient care services.
- Assists with the orientation and training of new staff. Provides education and training to PAs in the utilization of new equipment features/benefits and new techniques.
- Assists with optimization strategies to ensure adequate staffing for scheduled patients and same-day or emergent cases.
- Works with appropriate staff to ensure quality patient care. Carries out Quality Assurance protocols and Quality Improvement measures within the practice.
- In both an outpatient and inpatient setting, provides clinical services and care in conjunction with supervising physician.
- Coordinates care of established patients: coordinates the ongoing care of established patients ensuring that diagnostic testing and sub specialty consultations and all follow up appointments are completed on a timely basis.
- Coordinates care of new patients: coordinates the care of new patients ensuring that diagnostic testing and sub specialty consultations and all follow up appointments are completed on a timely basis.
- Where applicable, assists physician in surgeries and/or procedures.
- Obtains initial histories and performs physical examinations. Documents clinical findings in patient medical record. Develops and implements plan of care in conjunction with supervising physician.
- Provides health education counseling to patients and families. Answers questions about disease and treatment plan.
- Issues prescriptions for drugs, devices and immunizations as indicated.
- Responsible for standard clinical care responsibilities that fall under the physician assistantrole and scope of practice.
Education
- Graduate from ARC-PA accredited program
Experience
Master’s degree in PA studies or a related discipline preferred.
Extensive PA education, training and experience in the specialty area(s) to be performed.
A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years academic hospital based experience.
Clinical leadership experience in an acute care setting with evidence of strong leadership potential.

Licenses and Certifications
- Current New York State Physician Assistant License & Registration
- Certification from the National Commission of Physician Assistants, Inc (NCCPA)
- BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current ACLS or PALS (if applicable)
