Legacy Community Health is a premium, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides comprehensive care to community members regardless of their ability to pay. Our roots began in 1981 as the Montrose Clinic, with specialization in HIV education, testing, and treatment. Since then, the agency has expanded to over 50 clinics in Houston, one in Baytown, two in Beaumont, and one in Deer Park with extensive services that include: adult primary care, HIV/AIDS care, pediatrics, OB/GYN and maternity, dental, vision, and behavioral health. Job Description
Ultrasound technologists use machines that direct sound waves into the human body to create echo-mapped pictures of internal organs. The Ultrasound Tech will assist the provider to determine the gestational age and the expected date of delivery as well as the stage of development.
Essential Functions
- Analyze captured images, identifying variations between healthy and abnormal areas and including findings in the report to be forwarded to the physician.
- Ensure that the images produced by the equipment are clear for diagnosis, making necessary adjustments to improve image quality.
- Prepare patients for the procedure by explaining the process, assisting them to the table, and applying gel to the skin surface prior to using the equipment.
- Perform approximately 10 ultrasounds per day, including at least 50% anatomy scans.
- Communicate effectively with patients and maintain their comfort level during examinations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of normal human anatomy, variations, and abnormal conditions.
- Promote quality patient care through proper scanning techniques and optimal equipment settings.
- Interact effectively with radiologists by describing clinical histories, demonstrating anatomy, and modifying scan protocols as directed.
- Exhibit a cooperative attitude and excellent communication skills to explain procedures and elicit patient cooperation.
- Maintain the ultrasound machine and transducers, reporting any malfunctions to the Practice Manager immediately.
- Ensure cleanliness of the assigned area.
- Respond to questions from associates, physicians, and patients, providing factual information according to clinic guidelines.
- Participate in quality assurance programs and meet with the Director of Ultrasound monthly for quality assurance purposes.
- Maintain adequate levels of medical supplies necessary for ultrasound testing.
- Store videotapes and sonograms appropriately.
- Follow Legacy guidelines related to HIPAA to prevent unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Adhere to established Legacy policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Implement job responsibilities consistent with the Legacy Mission and Code of Ethics, supporting Legacy’s cultural diversity objectives.
- Participate in the Performance Improvement Program.
- Perform other related work as required.

- Maintain work area and equipment according to LCHS standards.
- Demonstrate proper body mechanics in all functions and check the patient’s environment for safety, reporting concerns promptly.
- Follow LCHS exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Demonstrate knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment (Universal Precautions).
- Ensure a safe environment by implementing appropriate control measures.
- Attend annual education programs.
Education & Training Requirements
- Completion of clinical and classroom programs meeting eligibility requirements of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
- Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers.
- Maintain good standing with the certifying body.
- Meet all continuing education requirements to maintain certification from the American Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Work Experience Requirements
- At least 2 years of obstetric/fetal ultrasound experience required.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- This job requires access to confidential and sensitive information, requiring ongoing discretion and secure information management.
- Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.
- Ability to meet Legacy Community Health’s EPIC proficiency requirements.
