How you make a difference
As a Psychologist in a correctional or detention facility, the role involves providing clinical mental health services to inmate patients. The Psychologist is responsible for providing clinical supervision and guidance to any mental health professionals assisting them. The Psychologist must provide mental health services that are consistent with their professional training and experience while meeting the expectations of the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical and consultation services consistent with professional standards and institutional policies and procedures.
- Conduct direct clinical services including diagnosis, treatment, psychological testing, and crisis intervention.
- Ensure compliance with ethical and professional standards of care and participate in quality improvement activities.
- Develop and implement goals and objectives for clinical services and assist in staff recruitment and selection.
- Notify appropriate personnel of serious incidents and provide professional education and staff development as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
- Doctorate in psychology and experience with mental health delivery systems
Experience:
- Significant professional experience in the mental field that indicates knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders and psychological evaluation techniques, including psychological assessment instruments
Licenses/Certifications:
- Licensed to practice psychology in the State of employment by the appropriate state licensing agency
