Responsibilities
The Surgical Coordinator supporting Mercy's Institute for Gynecological Care efficiently performs duties in a manner consistent with Mercy's Mission and Values. This individual schedules surgery, manages pre-authorization for surgical and office procedures, payment posting, charge entry and entry of patient demographics.
- Efficiently provides quotes for self pay procedures.
- Tracks pre-admission testing results ensuring they have been received in a timely manner according to office protocol.
- Manage doctors' surgery schedule to include coordinating surgeries with other doctors' offices.
- Answering phones and triaging patient phone calls for severity/importance.
- Possess and understand HMO's, Managed Care and Third Party regulations as they apply to a specialty practice.
- Verification of benefits pertaining to upcoming surgeries. Obtains pre-certifications and addresses all billing inquiries.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Surgical Coordinator Education:
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
Surgical Coordinator Experience:
- One year Surgical Scheduling experience preferred
- Previous experience in Coding or Accounts Receivable
- Must possess working knowledge of physician practice operations and understanding of basic scheduling system management.
- Must possess willingness to go above and beyond with every patient.
- Must possess ability to handle details and be well organized.
- Patient (Office and Operating Room) Scheduling.
- Customer Service.
- Must be able to perform: Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Ability to work in a demanding and challenging environment.
- Knowledge of duties and use of office equipment.
- Must have excellent telephone demeanor.
- Must possess excellent hygiene and grooming habits.
- Ability to prioritize workload for the most efficient performance.
