Positions range from permanent clinical float roles (Full time or Part Time) to Seasonal 13-week assignments with significantly higher base pay. Responsibilities:
- Monitors the day-to-day technical operation of one or more sections of the clinical laboratory at the FSED.
- Works closely with the Director of Laboratory Services, Laboratory Manager, and Medical Director to provide effective oversight of the section.
- Coordinates staffing and workflow at the FSED site.
- Evaluates new instrumentation and performs correlations as necessary.
- Monitors section quality control and preventive maintenance programs to ensure test accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Utilizes accepted quality control techniques by manual, semi-automated, or automated methodologies and equipment.
- Performs all approved laboratory procedures in assigned licensure specialties, as required to meet workload demands.
- Precisely and accurately performs and evaluates a variety of technical procedures.
- Reviews, updates, and maintains departmental policy and procedure manuals as required by accreditation agencies.
- Directs, supervises, and coordinates technical functions and activities in the Laboratory Department.
- Demonstrates flexibility with assignment and designated work area.
- Responds to both internal and external customers with respect, courtesy, and a positive approach through telephone and personal interactions.
- Performs employee evaluations for each position in the department.
- Responsible for training, supervising, directing, and coordinating lab resources.
- Performs phlebotomy procedures and assists in other laboratory activities as requested.
- Maintains good relationships with patients, medical staff, and other departments as well as other facilities that use the services.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- Relays results of diagnostic procedures to physicians and staff as requested.
- Achieves 100% compliance with core measure indicators.
- Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Qualifications
Education: Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, chemical or biological science and experience as defined by State of Florida. Certification by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) required.
Experience/Skills: Minimum 3 years laboratory experience in medical technology operations to include clinical rotation. Position requires theoretical and practical knowledge of quality control and quality assurance as they relate to Laboratory Medicine. Position requires exercise of independent judgment with a minimum degree of supervision. Work may involve testing procedures which require a high degree of theoretical knowledge and technical expertise in licensed areas. Other required abilities include: entering and retrieving data from Laboratory Information System, excellent oral and written communication skills, interaction with the public and medical/nursing personnel, making decisions under pressure, handling multiple priorities, and managing stress appropriately.
Licenses/Certificates: Holds current Florida Medical Technologist license in 3 of the 5 primary specialties.
