Position: Summer 2025 - Health and Safety Intern in GAC Savannah
The primary duties of this position are to assist EHS Safety Coordinators and Engineers in the development, management, and evaluation of Gulfstream Aerospace’s Fall Protection/Fall Arrest program. Other responsibilities and roles pertaining to the position include assisting in the management of Health and Safety related to manufacturing and service center operations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with the inventory of fall protection equipment throughout the manufacturing and service center sites. Update the fall protection database as needed.
- Develop process for ordering and stocking certain critical items of the fall protection program. Develop catalog of current equipment for quick ordering reference.
- Perform inspections on fall protection equipment in compliance with corporate standard.
- Help develop and evaluate new fall protection/fall arrest systems with current internal and external business partners.
- Participate in corporate reviews and revisions of the fall protection standard.
- Assist in daily contact with all levels of employees in multiple working environments to provide consultation and feedback on safety equipment.
- Assist in inspecting physical conditions and observe the actions of people. Work closely with area management and EHS Coordinators and Engineers toward safety improvements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education & Training Requirements
- Must currently be seeking a bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Engineering with a focus in Occupational Health or Safety Engineering.
- Must not graduate until after August 2024, or must be planning to move on to next level of education in Fall 2024. For Summer 2024, we will accept Spring 2024 graduates if you have been accepted in a Masters/PhD program for Fall 2024.
- Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA required. GPA must be listed on the resume. Resumes without GPA will not be considered.
- If you are a freshman, you should list your high school GPA. New graduate students should list their undergraduate GPA.
- The selected student for this position must be available to work at least 40 hours per week in person for at least 12 weeks starting May/June - August/September.
- Must have reliable transportation for the duration of the internship.
Operating Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Strong background in computers to include quickly learning database management software programs and spreadsheets.
- Must work well under pressure and within tight timelines.
- Ability to interact with site personnel and contractors in a professional and courteous manner.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to respirators, coveralls, gloves, boots, hard hats, and safety glasses as mandated by OSHA and/or company safety requirements.
