SUMMARY:
This position is located at our Barrington, RI clinical site.
Monday- Friday 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM- 5:00 PM.
The practice of sonography is performed by a segment of healthcare professionals responsible for the administration of high-frequency sound waves for diagnostic purposes. Under the general direction of the Ultrasound Technologist Manager and the respective Site Manager, provides requested images of high diagnostic quality based on the specifics of each case.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy in the production, use, recognition and analysis of ultrasound images and patterns used for diagnosis. Reviews images to ensure acceptable quality and completeness for diagnostic purposes.
- Possess, utilize, and maintain knowledge about bioeffects of high-frequency sound waves, applying principles of ALARA.
- Accommodates the next available patient at all times. Receives and greets the patient, obtains necessary medical history, and instructs and informs patient about the procedure. Treats patients in a caring, courteous, and professional manner at all times.
- Operates equipment according to specific/recognized procedures and in conformance with established routines and techniques.
- Performs quality control procedures when required. Responsible for immediately reporting any concerns relating to the equipment operation.
- Must remain sensitive to the needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring, and patient care skills. Maintains confidentiality at all times.
- Demonstrates an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- Utilize critical thinking and use independent, professional, and ethical judgment in all aspects of their work.
- Follows prescribed techniques and procedures for maintenance of aseptic conditions.
- Ensures that images, examinations requisitions, and other related records are properly completed to ensure correct patient identification, statistical and billing information.
- Coordinate with and volunteer assistance to reception and other personnel in areas outside of primary area of responsibility whenever lulls in technical duties occur.
- Informs site manager when supplies are low, and order as needed to ensure continuous/efficient operation.
- Is available as scheduled to provide technological duties at specified times and places assigned. Assists the radiologist when required.
- Work with, assist and/or teach new employees and/or students as assigned.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
- Exceptional communication skills with patients, fellow colleagues, and Radiologists.
- Obtain and maintain additional accreditation and/or certification(s) required by the State, Federal Government, and RIMI within areas of expertise.
- Must be registered in ultrasound by the ARDMS in at least one application.
- Experience in Abdominal, OB/GYN, small parts, and Vascular Ultrasound is required.
- Must be registered in Vascular Technology. Sonographers have one year from the date of hire or the date they complete their accredited ultrasound program to become registered.
- Must be current with all CME requirements.
EXPERIENCE:
One year of formal training in an accredited School of Ultrasound and/or one year of experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. May lift and position patients and supplies up to 50 pounds. Ability to move patients from scanner table and transport patients in wheelchairs and/or stretchers. Ability to crouch, reach and lift to allow appropriate manipulation positioning and placement of ancillary equipment.
