Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility:
The Surgical Technologist shall assist with procedures in our facility, including but not limited to, preparing and sterilizing the procedure rooms, as well as the necessary equipment and instruments, before any procedure, assist in preparing the patients for procedures, and help provide a great patient experience overall.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of surgical technology and procedures. Experience with instrumentation is greatly preferred.
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
- Demonstrates competence related to the application of our core values.
- Prepare sterile operating rooms for surgeries.
- Sterilize equipment and instruments.
- Stock adequate supplies for surgery.
- Prepare patients for surgery by washing and disinfecting incision sites.
- Provide support during surgery by passing instruments and other supplies.
- Track surgical supplies.
- Stay up to date on surgical technology, medical terminology, and procedures.
- Work well with providers, nurses, and staff.
- Comply with applicable laws and regulations.
- Comply with Mays & Schnapp Code of Conduct, policies and procedures, and compliance training program.
Qualifications:
Experience/Education/Certification: A graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program and/or other relevant qualification for employment following applicable state laws and regulations. Experience with instrumentation. Current BCLS.
Interpersonal: Development and maintenance of effective relationships with medical and administrative staff, patients, and the public. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations.
Critical Thinking: Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision making. Ability to set priorities and avoid crises management.
Knowledge: Surgical technology, medical terminology, sterilization techniques, and procedures. Computer systems and applications.
Physical Requirements: Work requires some physical effort. May be expected to assist in patient ambulation. Should be able to lift to 50 pounds independently. Work requiring light physical exertion is intermittent and is not a routine part of this job.
Environmental Conditions: Work is performed under normal working conditions in a surgical environment. Must be able to work under pressure.
