Faculty Position in Physical Oceanography – Moss Landing Marine Laboratories
Qualifications:
Moss Landing Marine Laboratories (MLML) is seeking well-qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position to provide quality undergraduate and graduate instruction and to pursue a vigorous research program in the general area of Physical Oceanography. We are seeking a field-oriented scientist with broad interests in physical oceanography, including coastal processes and biological/chemical/physical interactions.
The successful applicant must have a strong commitment to quality instruction and a record of a vigorous research program that can involve graduate students. A Ph.D. is required. Applicants should have awareness of, and sensitivity to, the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.
Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities include courses in physical oceanography; in quantitative methods such as time series analysis, statistical models, programming; and in specific areas of expertise. The candidate is expected to establish and maintain a vigorous extramurally funded research program involving MS students.
Due to the remote location of MLML, the candidate will not ordinarily serve on College or University level committees at SJSU, yet will be expected contribute to faculty meetings that serve as the main MLML institutional decision-making body; to serve on departmental committees that make and administer policy for space, curriculum, and RTP, among others; and contribute service to the MLML Board of Governors.
Candidates are expected to attend and assist with laboratory-sponsored events, and to lend support during promotional events (Open House, fundraising, etc.). Faculty members represent the institution and are expected to conduct themselves professionally in all external interactions and be collegial and supportive of other faculty members, staff, and students. Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity, in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation, through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
