- GENERAL SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, controls, and supervises activities in hospital outpatient pharmacy according to hospital policies, standards of practice of the profession, and State and Federal laws. Recommends innovations in the practice and function of the hospital pharmacy to the Outpatient Pharmacy Manager and carries out mutually agreed upon programs. These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values and behaviors of Insight Chicago Pharmacy. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and guests.
II. DESCRIPTION:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures safe, appropriate, cost effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols (40%)
- Ensures strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients (35%)
- Ensures compliance with health system policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations (10%)
- Continuously evaluates the quality of services and/or products provided to the department’s customers (10%)
- Serves as a positive role model by displaying a cooperative professional behavior in interacting with others (5%)
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge:
- B.S. or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy and a current pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy.
- Completion of a 1-year pharmacy practice residency, specialty residency, or fellowship, or at least 3 years of pharmacy experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience using computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and pharmacy information systems required.
- Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services.
- Proficient in the use and application of new medications and technology.
- Leadership, administrative, human resource, and managerial skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively participate on interdisciplinary teams and committees.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Knowledge of pathophysiology, interpretation of diagnostic criteria, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics.
- Problem solving ability and analytical thinking required.
- Abilities: Repetitive use of hand and fingers (e.g., use of a computer keyboard). May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs) and stooping, kneeling, or reaching (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on low and high shelving, and to file documents in lower file drawers). Sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary. Must be able to physically operate the equipment used for the job.
