This posting is being used to fill various School Based Physical Therapist Assistant (Full Performance) positions at the specified location.
Salary Range:School Based Physical Therapist Assistant (Full Performance), HE-10: $5,798.00 per month
- As directed by the PT, assist by observing and identifying the level of physical capability of students to participate in school activity settings, and identify levels of support required to access education.
- Assists the PT in the development of intervention programs based on student needs, environmental accessibility and expectations for participation in school activities.
- Provides physical therapy interventions and uses therapy techniques as stated in the IEP to assist students in accessing and participating in their educational environment.
- Instructs, motivates, and assists students in learning and improving functional activities such as perambulation, transfer, ambulation, and activities of daily living.
- Monitors ongoing changes and implementation of tasks which may include appropriate use of assistive technology and/or adaptive equipment designed to maximize student performance and access to the educational environment. Provides feedback to the PT about student performance.
- Documents therapy notes, quarterly and annual progress reports and keeps accurate daily and monthly data according to program policies and procedures.
- Plans daily schedule according to the assigned caseload.
In addition to the key duties and responsibilities, this position under the direction of the PT may be assigned to:
Act as an assistant to the PT when the PT is performing tests, evaluations and difficult treatment procedures; educate other staff working with the student on correct positioning, range of motion exercises, body alignment and posture, ambulation, proper body mechanics in lifting and in other physical therapy practices; assist in the maintenance of physical therapy equipment maintain a clean and safe physical environment; document and note progress in appropriate record; take inventory; order supplies; assist the PT in estimating equipment needs and equipment acquisitions; perform other clerical tasks; and perform other related duties as assigned.
Education Requirement: Graduation from an accredited physical therapist assistant program, with at the time of graduation was accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), its predecessor organization, or its successor organization; or in the case of a foreign-trained person, a credential evaluation report from an agency recognized by the appropriate licensing agency of the State of Hawaii, indicating successful completion of an education program that has been determined to be equivalent to an accredited physical therapist assistant program.
Experience Requirement: One (1) year of work experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant which involved the performance of physical therapy work and related duties under the direction of a physical therapist. Such work experience must have demonstrated the implementation of physical therapy care plans developed by a PT, care and use of equipment, providing instruction in physical therapy procedures to patients and others.
License Requirements:
- Applicants must possess a valid license issued by the State of Hawaii to practice as a Physical Therapist Assistant at the time of appointment; and
- Applicants must possess a valid license to drive in the State of Hawaii.
Substitutions Allowed: Graduation from an accredited physical therapist program, which at the time of graduation was accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), its predecessor organization, or its successor organization; or in the case of a foreign-trained person, a credentials evaluation report from an agency recognized by the appropriate licensing agency of the State of Hawaii, indicating successful completion of an educational program that has been determined to be equivalent to an accredited physical therapist program, may be substituted for all of the education and work experience required for the entry and full performance level.
Lift and Carry Requirement: Some positions require the ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
Salary: The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable.
Requirements: Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.
Temporary Assignment: Claims of Temporary Assignment (TA) experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements must be verified and attached to the application using one of the options below:
- A copy of the applicant’s TA History Report or equivalent system-generated report;
- A signed letter from the applicant’s supervisor that includes the applicant’s name, his/her TA job title, the TA start and end dates (from mm/yy to mm/yy), his/her specific TA duties performed, and either the TA hours worked per week or total TA hours worked; or,
- Copies of the applicant’s signed SF-10 Forms.
